Best watch <$1000 that retains its value?

My ultimate goal is an 116710, but it very well may be five years before I reach that goal. I would like to get a nice watch in the $500-1000 range, that retains its value. I don't care if it is new or used. I'm not sure I intend to sell it once I reach a point where I can get the Rolex, but if I decide to I don't want to lose a large chunck of what I paid for it.
