Daytona advice needed....once more...
Im still thinking of buying a SS Daytona...and so far, decided I like the black dial.
I know my AD have one. BUt I was offered a 90/91 Zenith one ,with the full brushed links for about the same price as the new...but white dial. SO... I like the black one,but dont like the polished links and...I like the brushed, but dont like the white. I know the Zenith is very rare...could I change dials?or brush links? Any advice? THanks, DK |

I'd definately go for the "Zenith" Daytona!
But check the serial number of it! If it is an R, L, X, E or late N-series, the brushed bracelet is correct. Those would be in the "VERY RARE" category. (Pic from a German watch forum).

The Zenith is worth a couple of grand more than the 116520, even more if an early or late SEL type.

I had a Zenith and now have an M Daytona.
Really wanted another Zenith because I liked the format But, this new M has grown on me more than I could have imagined and it has a great movement and a superb bracelet. From a wearing standpoint the M series hands down. Mrdi |

Depends on what you want..
Don't just get one because we say this is worth this much and that one is worth this much... The black dial is definitely easier to read and if it's the one you want, you will not be fully satisfied with anything else... ...................

Get the Zenith and leave it original. It will grow on you. Love White Dial Daytonas!
Wish I could get a Zenith. |

I love the way the white dial looks. But you are the one that has to make that decision. Good luck.

If you're looking at it more as an investment than a watch you like to wear, get the Zenith. However, if you like the black dial, my guess is that old Zenith white dial will always bother you.
I have the black dial M and also had the choice to get a Zenith from a friend, but I didn't because of 2 reasons: 1. some other dude did god knows what with the Zenith before selling it 2. the black dial with the current (M) dial layout and rehaut engraving kicks @ss -- it's the perfect balance of sport and dressy -- sporty from afar, and seriously blingy from up close 3. I believe the Zenith movement is only collectible because of sentimental value, not necessarily the quality of movement -- there's a reason Zenith watches do not retain the same value and cache as Rolex over time. In the end, choose the watch you will like looking at every day -- like the girl you married. No one will give you credit for having a Zenith other than when you sell it, and you may dislike the white old-style dial every day until then. |
