Buying from flagship vs AD

Any opinions on the difference (if any) of purchasing from a rolex flagship store or an authorized dealer? Was thinking about flying to NYC to purchase, but have been told a local AD will sometimes apply discount. Any thoughts or recommendations? Looking to buy 116234 or 116710.

Either way it is the same you are buying from an AD.

If you buy from an independent AD you can start a relationship for future discounts.

the flagship in CA told me they offer longer warranty. Was she just trying to sell me on their location?

A Rolex watch is just a commodity like any other retail product, so no matter where its bought through a authorised outlet the product will be the same. And as for any discount that will be down to your bargaining skills, if one AD will not discount simply find one that will.Or better still buy from one of our own in-forum trusted sellers and save some money the product will be the same.

No first hand experience, but I was under the impression that ADs discount and Rolex store does not.

Also NY taxes higher than say nearby NJ.

Be interested to hear if anyone did get discount from Rolex store.

Some Rolex boutiques in the UK will definitely discount. Don't know about US though.

You do realize that the Rolex boutiques are owned and operated by ADs right? The NYC boutique is just Wempe in different clothes.

Discounts at any Rolex AD in NYC (outside of PM) are few and far between.

If you want to fly somewhere and buy a Rolex. Make I Hong Kong or Italy. Otherwise, call davidsw and wait for fedex.

If it wasn't clear before, the Rolex stores in the US are all AD's, not company stores

US Boutiques are under strict contract from Rolex and so they are definitely different from a typical AD that is authorized to carry Rolex as one of their brands/lines.

In return for following Rolex contract requirements they are given an exclusive market territory and goals. So, they are less likely to upset the Rolex apple cart than a jewelry store (operated by the same parent) where Rolex is not their bread and butter.

Yeah for me it wasn't just the price. the sales lady acted as though I got a longer warranty and that there were other perks to buying from them specifically. One of the things was a buy back upgrade program. So mostly curious what you sacrifice to buy from local AD. But if they are all the same in the US, it seems that must not be true.

Surely the price of a round trip flight to New York would outweigh any benefits, unless you're going there anyway?

I browsed their site, they did not have the particular 116234 combination I am looking for, but the ones that were similar were only 1500 cheaper than the model is brand new from AD. I can't seem to justify buying 10 years old for that little of a price difference but
