Back from the Watch Maker

A couple of weeks ago I was comparing pricing on getting some different details taken care of on several of my watches. One was a dial swap on my DJ (16013). I got the heads up yesterday that it was done. So I drove over to the Watch Maker over in Stoneham, MA to pick it up today. This was the only quote that they gave me that wasn't over the top. At any rate it's nice to have it back to original and imho it looks much better. I think they did a nice job.

Here's the watch as I originally received it with the Jubilee dial that the prior owner had added. The second and third photos are with the original dial returned. It is a marked improvement from my perspective. I'm curious what others think.

IMHO, it looks so much cleaner with what you've done. Certainly would be my preference.

Thanks gents for the early affirmations!!! I've decided to have some fun and turn this into a poll so everyone can make their choice without having to leave a comment if they don't want to.

The tapestry white dial looks far better IMO. It was a good idea to switch it back. I think it looks a lot more classy now.

I'm a big fan of the jubilee dial. Had a blue one on my SS/WG Thunderbird for 15 years. Then changed it to a silver stick. Kept the dial though and will probably put it back on soon. The silver stick looks too much like my WG DD.

Tapestry White Dial, the hands look better against the white.

The lack of minute markers on the Jubilee dial would make it a chore to set the time correctly, I imagine.

I agree; there is something about the white dial with the nipple sticks, railroad track minute/second race and roman numerals that makes it look sharp and crisp. Cleaner is a good description.

The tapestry dial is unique but perhaps somewhat dated; I agree that it is beautiful and I suspect the prior owner was trying to make the watch more modern with the Jubilee and Arabic numbers.

It's interesting that I feel the same on this as well; the black dial was very sporty, imho; the white dial gives it an elegance missing in the other guise. Sometime a while back someone on the forum said black is for sports models; I see what they mean, now.

You aren't alone in this perspective as the watch was received with the jubilee and the owner paid $500 to switch it over (seems about right for the cost of the dial and the service). It cost me half that to switch it back. I can either sell the dial or keep it in case I change my mind again in another couple of years.

Another thought I had that the hands now match the dial; although it wasn't a big thing there was definitely a lack of continuity prior to the change back to original.

Yes to both of these; it's nice to actually have minute and second marks and to be able to do other than guesstimate when setting or checking the time. Perhaps it's the engineer in me and I must be a bit OCD but I'm not much of an individual lean towards the Movado simplicity.

Sharp and crisp; too adjectives I'd use.

Thanks all for the comments. One thing to note is that in the Boston area at least it is really hard to find a shop who is willing to do work as requested; everyone want to do a full service and not something as mundane as swap the dial and replace the crystal. I don't understand why this is such and issue for them. I suspect they feel it opens them up to liability. I'm not certain.
