ITS DONE! Plexi conversion on a 16800....

I spent some time with a watchmaker friend of mine yesterday getting doing a sapphire to plexi conversion to give it a more vintage appeal. And it works like a charm!

Sexy original matte dial and hands prepped for the new plexi

Looking for that perfect plexi. Left is the original sapphire that came on it, middle is a 1680 factory one and on the right is an infamous SUPERDOME

.

We settled on the 1680. The SUPERDOME is just a hair to small and wouldn't fit.... Unfortunately!

.

Sealed it back up, and into the chamber she went for a pressure test. 2 bar later, she's ready to go!

.

And here she is...

Looks good. I don't think I'd have wet-tested the seal at 2 bar with the movement in the case, though...

Incidentally - that 'superdome' isn't a superdome, it's a T-127 with cyclops, for the 1680. The domed ones have no magnifying lens.
The one you chose looks more like a T-125, used on Tudor subs, with that bevel and lower profile.

This excites me, and for some reason I didn't think this was possible... My 16800 is trembling at the moment as Im eyeing her up like an evil plastic surgeon.

Nice job BTW...

I think this is a great mod. No alterations to the original watch, so why not?

Keep the original parts safe (as I'm sure you will) and enjoy it!

EDIT=> That tall crystal looks like an original 127- so called "top hat" as I have on my Tudor for some reason... The service 127 has significant bevels (like the 125) but is just about as tall as the top hat 127.

Location of the cyclops is diffeent as well- more 'outboard' on the 125 than the 127.

The height of the 125 is not much higher than the sapphire... which makes the conversion not that dramatic.

Now if it was a 16800 with the Top Hat Plexi.. that would be dramatic !!

Hmmmmmm never even thought of this. Would a T-39 fit on a matt-dial 666? Now that would be awesome.

5513, till about 1990. Tudor 79090 went on for a few years longer.
