Vacheron Overseas

I have decided I 'need' one of these. However, I am stuck, do I get a chrono or a dual time? Or which option, strap or bracelet? Which colour?

This is tough, I have so many other watches I am not trying to fill any holes just want the best option. I don't want a gold, titanium looks good, the new novelty chrono look great too.

I have now seen a couple in the wild an just gotta get one!

What say the collective?

I think both are great choices. I have a number of dual time/GMT pieces and chronos-- two of my favorite complications. I own the VC overseas chrono. I don't like the dual time layout as much. I generally don't care about lack of symmetry but this one bothers me a bit. As a chrono-- the VC is a really nice size-- smaller and thiner than most. In terms of the dial--- this drove me nuts trying to choose. I ilke all of the various dial colors. In the end I choose the "grey". I believe this is the only one that is titanium -- but it is only partially titanium and does not have a great affect on the weight. I have no regrets about the chrono vs dual time--- I looked at both.. but I still consider if the white, black or even blue worthy options and think about whether I should have gone with a different option.

The steel bracelet is not an option for the grey titanium but i picked that up separately.

I would wait to next year, a redesign with an inhouse movement is likely to come.

Along with a serious hike in price (and service cost) - just buy pre-owned now and enjoy for a while, and if the new model ever materialises and is better looking, make a move on it then.

I am not sure from where you heard this for the previous years, but it is official for next year. There is no guarantee that the inhouse movement will be an better though, I am not terribly impressed with the harmony.

To the original poll question: chrono for me, it is one of my favourite chrono designs. The two novelties are the best dials, but I love the overseas bracelet. I am not sure if it compatible, so you get both strap and bracelet? If not, it would be very hard for me to chose between white dial with bracelet or one of the two novelties with strap.

Have you actually seen the 9015 novelty mentioned in the poll? I think there is no comparison with the old ti.

If you don't mind me asking, regarding the Harmony, are you not so impressed with the movement or the actual watches that were released?

I like the watches a lot and wish I could afford the grand complication/split chrono! I think the movements are great for the Harmony watches, but maybe not the best for a sports watch like the Overseas. The priority has been to make them as thin and elegant as possible, but this has resulted in compromises (lateral clutch, 3Hz frequency).

Also my guess is that the Overseas will use the movement from the Harmony chrono which a mono pusher that I don't like as much. There might be an Overseas split chrono as well, but this will probably be out of my reach anyway. Let's wait until January to see what they come up with, we might be pleasantly surprised.

Yes, I was wondering about the mono-pusher for the Overseas. I'm assuming the dual-time movement will be used too, though the layout of the dials is different than the current JLC movement. The clutch also surprised me. And since Mr. Torres did say the chronograph movement will be in the new Overseas I wonder how they will implement it.

I don't think we've seen an automatic three-hand yet. VC really must get that movement out and into the Patrimony automatic line.

From my understanding VC is trying to keep the price increase to a minimum but will likely be at a minimum 25%. This is one reason why I think now may be a good time to acquire one of these.

The new pricing may assist to retain the value going forward.

I can't imagine they'll price it higher than the equivalent AP's.

Yes, price wise it makes sense. In addition to the price rise, the current Overseas can easily be found at around 30% discount right now whereas it could take a long time for the next one to be discounted. So the price gap will be a lot more than 25%.

I don't know, the AP is still using the FP caliber 1185, so I wouldn't be surprised if the new Overseas is more expensive as it would have this additional "selling point".

I do hope they keep the anti-magnetic case and 150m WR, as those are two excellent selling points against RO.

In the pics it looks great! The white looks great but not sure how legible the white would be for someone who needs readers.

If you have seen it please expand.

I just was stating there were a number of rumors over the last few years about this release. I did not know it is official for next year

If you need/want a blue themed watch, the blue dial Chrono on strap is a beauty. If not, the silver Chrono on bracelet is more versatile and quite nice too.
Have you tried on the bracelet? For ME, I didn't think it was very comfy, when I had mine but many love the comfort level of it.

I've had my Deep Stream Chrono for close to two years now and as much as I still love its reserved understated look (and the comfort of the rubber strap as well as the absolutely mind-blowing ability to resist any kind of scratches and marks), I like the idea of the new novelty 9015 with the yellow hands and marks. An elegant and measured colour accent does this watch good (that's why I voted for this model). Although I would have preferred to keep white seconds chrono markers on the dial. And I'd change the hands colour to a bit more orange-ish rather than just yellow.

I also love the silver/white chrono model but it may be too extroverted in some situations due to the polished bezel and steel bracelet. Still, a gorgeous look with a serious wrist presence if that's what you are looking for.

Curious to find out what you end up selecting :)

I found the white dial to be pretty legible as it has large hands. Certainly better than the RO in white.

Can't you buy the strap separately?

Yes. When in doubt or when you want both, always buy watch on bracelet because it usually costs a lot more coin to buy a bracelet after the fact than the price difference between the bracelet/non-bracelet versions new.
