Hi all

I've read lots of posts on servicing 'shocks' and the more fragile nature (compared to Rolex) of a Royal Oak, despite it being pitched as a Sports watch.

I'd be really interested to hear from you guys about your experiences in terms of wearing a Royal Oak as an every day watch, in terms of general bumps and bruises and the follow on servicing.

I'm planning on having one primarily for work (and then a Nautilus for special occasions only) and keeping my Rolex for bashing around on a daily basis, but keen to see if anyone has tried the Royal Oak as their main daily wearer?

It will be fine. If you dig ditches or are in construction, then you might want to think twice.

I had the same concerns when I first considered a RO. After doing some research and talking to actual owners, it is mostly conjecture from those who don't own or haven't even handled the RO. As for scratches, I don't think it will show scratches more than the PCLs on a Rolex.

Very well built movement, and service price on a RO verses a Daytona (my current watch) is only about a $300 difference. Which is negligible over a 5-7 year span.

It's fine for everyday wear. Scratches will accumulate esp for the bracelet but most will be hairlines, depending how you wear it. Most of the time I don't even notice.

I have worn a Naut 5712 as a daily, same flat brushed bezel as the RO, sure it has 4 maybe 5 hardly visible hairlines, which you only see under a certain light, if you look just like this you won't probably see anything, but I am very keen on wrist awareness, it's second nature to me, I almost never bump my watch into anything, to be honest since I sleep with it I think the hairlines were most probably made because of my wife's wedding band during the night, again I have worn it 24/7 for 1 year, and they look really great, of course they don't look new but they look like they have been worn for a small period of time, now I got the ROO ceramic diver, no scratches unless it meets with a diamond or something as hard pr harder, luckily for me my wife doesn't sleep with any diamond ring so no worries there, be a minimum careful and you'll be fine, or best solution get a model with ceramic or cermet bezel...

Scratches on the bezel hurt but other than that you're all set.

Right. The widespread perception out there that a watch this thin is therefore dainty is amazing.

Anyone who has read anything about the design of this watch can tell you it is built like a little vault. A screw down crown and WR of 165 feet means it pretty much will take anything you can throw at it. This watch was built and brought to market as a Luxury Sports Watch....

What makes wearers hesitate to really work the RO 24/7 is the finish. Which is nothing short of incredible and makes the owner wince when a scratch appears.

I wear mine as much as possible, and once you get one you will understand the hold it has over its owner.

I do not wear mine everyday. I wear my sub c most of the time. Im always a bit more careful with the ro as I dont like scratches.

I had an SS Diver which sits much higher than the ROs and barely had a scratch on the bezel in 2 years in rotation, so as long as you treat it with respect you should be fine.

They are not fragile per se. What does happen though is because of the high level of finishing (brushed and polished with sharp edges) any bumps and bruises do show more than say a Rolex sub.
Go in aware of this and you should be fine.

I've had a 15300 since 2008 but only started wearing it as an every day watch from 2012, over 3 years i think its the most scratched and dented AP 15300 most people have seen. + I don't care about this watch scratching won't bother selling it any time soon, its here and will always be here to stay.

My sub has less scratches LOL, I scratched it a lot against my Macbook pretty much scratched it against everything.

Just treat it as it should be treated as a partial name of its category states: "luxury" sports watch. You'll be fine. I think it's a great daily. So far so good for me. But again I am very aware of the spaces I walk through to prevent bumping it against anything. Which I think should be true for most watches discussed here on TRF - not just the RO or ROO.

Actually you only notice the scratches when you have the watch in your hands under good lighting, if your standing 3 feet away you won't notice the scratches. One of the reasons why you can't notice the scratches are from the polished/ brushed end give the shiny look for the watch, compare it to a sub any small scratch on it are much more visible.

My first royal oak scratched easily so now I'm more careful with the Jumbo, I guess the first one was a learning experience.

These watches are more resilient than they get credit for but it depends on how you define bashing. I wear mine often and the marks, dings, and dents definitely show. I'm personally fine with that.

I had a Daytona (116519) as a daily and moved to my AP Diver as my daily about 3 months ago and it definitely took more hairline scratches then I would have liked because I was so used to my Daytona fitting under my dress cuffs. If you are used to a thinner watch then you definitely want to be prepared to take some hairlines.

I wear my 15400 loads. I'm no more careful with it than I am when wearing a Rolex. The Royal Oak is a fantastic watch, and after 6 months is standing up well to my daily wear.
