Vintage look strap forSub
Hey everyone.
I'm looking for a vintage look leather/distressed leather/leather nato strap for my 114060. Might also use it on the speedy if it suits. Any pics of your subs with a leather strap/leather nato? Any idea or opinions on brands/models? Thanks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I tried a JPM (JeanPaul Menicucci) strap for my sub. Very similar to the Hodinkee strap. It looked amazing, but I found that the Maxi case really gouged the leather where the strap meets the lugs (gouges are more clear on the last image with the speedy). Some leather conditioner will do the trick, but these bands are made with very soft leather, so the case really cuts into them.
Looks great on the speedy too! Hope this helps |

I bought mine from Gunny Straps. Great service and a massive range of choice.

Sorry but IMHO Subs should be on a oyster bracelet or rubber. Do you really want to get leather wet?

Why is it that people insist on wearing dive watches on leather? It just seems to me totally incongruous. Dive watches should me on bands that can be used in the water not on ones that can't get wet. IMHO.

I wore it with the bracelet for about 18 months now and still love the bracelet. Its fun to swap straps and change the look of the watch. Never thought I'd put the Sub on a strap, but I did. Really like the look

In my view a "distressed strap" looks out of place on a NEW or later model Rolex, such as the 114060 Sub ND shown here. On a vintage Sub with faded and/or patina on the dial,.... and assortment of "distresses" on the case itself it might look OK.
Personally, I'm not a fan of the light brown distressed straps on black dial and bezel new watches,.....just looks "assembled" from whatever was hanging around. It looks sorta "staged" to me. Others like it and if that floats their boat go for it,....you only have to make YOU happy to be happy! For me,....I prefer the strap and watch case to age and distress TOGETHER, and start off in a similar color scheme. On this 3 week old 114060,.....the 6mm thick black strap (NOT a padded thickness,...just leather), is made with a super soft and comfortable Horween leather right from the start. (no breaking in needed). A great color match to this Submariner head to start life together. It also has enough weight to offset any usual perceived "top heaviness" of the Sub head on leather or NATO straps. This Andreas Mario Muller strap with Sub head weighs in as a very comfortable 109.1 grams. The naturally higher friction of leather against the skin also seems to stay put much better than the SS bracelet, especially when I wear it on hot days with a "two finger" access between strap and wrist. With that much space, the SS bracelet would easily turn to one side or another. This leather strap not nearly as much. An added benefit is the watch doesn't attract near as much "unwanted" attention as a Mugging Magnet, because the strap is very different from anything that Rolex provides. A real bargain I think at between $100 to $150, depending whether you buy it now or win it on the bay at the starting price,.....which is how I purchased it at the low end. As I posted in a thread on a review of this,....the buckle is not up to my expectations (shallow buckle holes and shallow spring bar engagement into the holes), but easily replaced under $20. Compared to a much thinner "factory" leather at 3X the dough,.....I'll go this route every time. .......and we can ALL age and "distress" T O G E T H E R |
