Lack of Lume?!

Just purchased a beautiful 116680 YMII and noticed there was no lume on the red regatta countdown hand? Why on earth would you leave out the beautiful blue lume on the triangle hand? I understand, regattas are not run in the dark, but still, would it kill Rolex to use a bit of extra lume for the sake of looking good?

Just a thought.

Else, it is my favorite steel watch to date.

Thanks to Andrew, AFC1 for the excellent transaction. Great seeing you again Andrew.

Jon

Congrats! Yes, safety feature. Rolex cares for you and does not want you racing at night.

Ha, I agree but man, my GMT looks great in the dark with the triangle lumed.

I'm lucky that Andrew afc1 lives 45 mins away...still have yet to go on one of his legendary sushi dinners.

Tom, Nice pic on the boat. I figured the watch was less expensive than the yacht....

The only thing I can think if is that since you don't need countdown isn't involved in reading the time they left out the lume so it wouldn't interfere distract from acquiring the time in the dark. But even if that is the case I think they might have over thought it a bit.

Well...first off, congrats on an amazing watch. One of the most unique time pieces in the lineup, IMO.

As far as no lume on the red hand, never really thought about it or missed it.

I think it would interfere with the shape and size of the hand and would not look right with a bigger hand

The daytona seconds hand does not have lume either, I think (maybe wrong)

This makes sense, now that I think about it.
