Large watches on women

Saturday night I was in my favorite expat bar in South Korea. The waitress wanted to try on my ExpII. I told her it was too large for her small wrists. She tells me the latest trend for young Korea women is the larger watches. I asked her why then does she like them….don’t remember much past that point.

It's the latest trend everywhere - women's fashion is leaning into large watches.

I see it quite a lot here in Singapore, mostly G-Shocks or lookalikes.

If a woman wears an oversized watch, for some strange reason I haven't figured out yet I think it looks a bit silly unless it's big enough to park a stealth bomber on.

My wife likes big watches and maybe it has nothing to with trends, it's not always a trend....Panerais were big before trends.
Her reasoning is she can tell time easier, wow imagine that. I also work with a few nurses who have 40mm watches, again easier to read at a glance. My wife also says there are more choices in the larger sizes, more options, very true.

My SA at my AD also wears a GMT2c, same reasoning, besides as she stated, Rolex doesn't make a tiny GMT which she needs. She also stated that in her opinion from years of working at the dealer she has seen that the larger watches are more durable and robust, and keep better and more reliable time, than their smaller counterparts. Finally, she said, if and when repairs are needed it is much easier to source parts and repair the standard sized movements. The smaller ladies movements because they're sold in much lower quantities present with longer repair times as they may have to wait for parts the watchmaker may not generally keep in stock.

In the end I like the larger watches on woman, and as a bonus the only cross dressing which I will ever do is in this situation, borrow my wife's YM. That's a win in my book.

Below is my wife wearing my PO in 42mm and my SA who sold me my BLNR and wears a GMT2c, both look fantastic in my opinion.

Far from the latest trend - Women have been wearing men's watches for years. I think it looks great but more importantly, they think it does.

Not a fan of actually oversized watches on women, but a 40mm Rolex looks damn good on many women's wrists.

Here are few other ladies who wear them well. The wrist shot is of one of our members who also wears "mens" sizes, because I don't see them that way nor do I specifically believe they are "mens" watches even though I believe Rolex even lists them as such........so, there aren't any woman who may have a need of an Explorer 2 in the woods...in fact I saw a female sales associate at the Wempe store in NYC with a Polar Exp2 and it looked incredible on her imo.

I've been to Seoul / Busan a few times over the past year and Koreatown's across the country, haven't seen this trend of young Korean women wearing large watches.

I look at those photos of women's wrists with watches that look too big and I just think "Why?"

I agree with you my friend. IMO 34 is perfect 36 is stretching it.

Daytonas look better on women than a sub buy yet again I've seen women wearing 47mm panerais covering their wrists

I'm inclined to believe that these women, while they may have a true interest in watches and horology, own these very large watches for mainly fashion.

These watches can be quite heavy, even for some men and the size of some watches aren't even comfortable for my wrists.

I tend to think that these larger watches must be part of a collection of jewelry for the wrist for special occasions and not for daily wear.

Now, I'm just guessing and there are probably some women who wear a DSSD every day, but I think that as a generalization, this is not the case.
