Half-link for DSSD ?

Hello all,

I have been trying to get the exact fit on my Deepsea, and have concluded that having 4.5 links on the 6 o'clock side would be great.

The clasp is off centre with 4, and uncomfortable. With 5, the fit is perfect during normal temperature but I either need to have no inwards adjustment on the glidelock (with all links on the 12 o'clock side), or very limited (2 click's) outwards adjustment with one link removed from the 12 o'clock side. It seems a shame to lose the functionality of the glidelock given what a wonderful feature that it. [note: I have already removed the diver's extension]

I 'phoned my AD and he said that he checked with Rolex and they don't do a half-link for the Deepsea. Fair enough. Would a half-link from a 116610 fit, I ask ? He said no, but I thought I'd check with the forum as I thought that whilst the lug width of the Deepsea is wider at 21mm, actually it tapers down to the same as a SubC so a SubC half-link should work fine.

Can anyone confirm (and, even better, post a pic for me to show the AD) ?

Crikey, now they are playing the line that (a) I need to bring the watch in as I can't just order it over the 'phone and (b) Rolex will insist on taking back my full link (even though it is my property) before giving me the half-link !

Can I even be bothered !!

Perhaps one of the trusted sellers here could find/source one for you?

Your AD is full of it..

If you can buy an extra link on any given day for fitment, why would they even consider selling a half link on an exchange basis.

What I would say is "OK, swap my full link for a half-link, then sell me a full link".

The saga goes on; 'phoned the RSC and they won't order one as it is not original to the watch. They did helpfully suggest that an AD with an accredited watchmaker (my AD does not have one, so that was the reason for refusing the request) could technically order one, but they would have to pretend it was for a Submariner so it would be up to them if they were prepared to do that. They also helpfully gave me a list of ADs with accredited watchmakers. OK, so fair enough, Rolex policy is illogical but the guy was trying to be helpful. He also acknowledged that it was well-known that the Submariner one fitted perfectly, and he had the decency to say he didn't understand the policy.

So I call the one on the list nearest to me and they said they would have to send it back to Rolex and it would take 2-3 weeks !! Upon my trying to explain that Rolex themselves would likely just send it back because the part was not original for the watch, I was met with a bemused silence. I said not to worry I will try elsewhere....

At some point I will work up the mental energy to try the others on the list, failing which I will post a WTB (despite being in the UK), but I see from doing a search on the forum that several of these seem to have gone unanswered so they are perhaps not so easy for resellers to get their hands on.

Anyway, I post mostly to try and help others who want to do the same; there is a route to doing this (i.e. get your Rolex-accredited watchmaker to order one for you, but you'd essentially be calling in a favour as they are not officially supposed to do it).

Odd and illogical, but there you go.

I think I had this issue, I removed the flip lock divers extension on mine and it is far more comfortable, think its left me with and odd number of links either side but fits perfectly now

I also removed the flip lock extension and it fits much better.

I've had a similar challenge in trying to source a YG glide lock clasp.

Thanks for the notes, I also have removed the extension - it is the clasp positioning on the 6 o'clock side I am trying to solve for. Sorry, should have made that clear.

Mike - interesting, presumably you are trying to put a YG clasp from a Sub on your YMII ? I guess that is the exact same conceptual challenge re Rolex policy (i.e. it will fit but, for no logical reason, it is not OEM).

Boy what a bunch of BS just to get a half-link. You would that fitment would be the goal here, nothing more nothing less and they get to sell you a half link. Hope you get this sorted out.
