Rolex Yachtmaster

Hi Guys. Im just curious on why the Yachtmaster is not that desirable as compared to a Subamariner. For me, i like the look of the Yachtmaster and is one of my dream watches but i am just curious as to why its not that famous here in TRF compared to a Sub. I for one would want it, except the cost since its way more expensive than the Subamriner Date that i have now.

It is because it is newer than the sub. The sub is the Rolex when people think of Rolex imo. The YM SS/Pt is awesome!!!!!

Hi Ken. I think you answered you own question- it's the cost.

The Sub is the classic sports Rolex. YMs are great but have a different aesthetic.

Hello All,

I am new to the forum. Actually, this is my very first post...Anyway, can someone tell me what is the latest Yachtmaster and year. It looks like it is the Z series or the M series of 2007. Which one is newer? Is there one even later than that? I already know about the Yachtmaster II and I can't afford that one.

M-series is the very latest.....but is no different from my late Z-series above.

Rumor has it you have to own a large amount of sheep to buy one. This is because you can use the fleece to polish it on a regular basis due to the extra shiney surfaces

Seriously though its a fantastic watch

I love the YM! (SS) It was the first 'nice' watch i purchased for myself.

i know noticed on those pics that the YM has rolex written all around the inside of the bezel. pretty nice! i dont have that on mine, so im assuming its something new. are there any other changes to it?

The YM is a very exclusive watch, having not only a Platinum bezel but also a Platinum dial.

The YM combines the classic sport's Rolex look with a touch of bling. Very nice watch, indeed!

When you thank of Rolex you thanks of the Submariner. This watch model has been around longer and has a greater following, like me.

Subs are my favorite of them all.

If Rolex would do the right thing and put a much needed gold crown on the TT yachtmaster, I would have to own one. The solid gold bezel is truly outstanding but the stainless crown on the TT model is bewildering and ruinous to the look.

I think the Yatchmaster will evenually come the fore. As more of us own yatch's than Submarine's. For the moment I love the Sub but platty is growing on me.

I think most people own a sub, because it is one of the more affordable rolexes. I flipped my GMT Master II and got a really good trade in towards a SS Platinum Yacht Master. I think it is a great watch!

I have a Z TT with a white dial, I love the watch I love the maxi dial I like the softer lines of the case as compared to the sub or gmt. I have had a sub but having had both I prefer the yachtmaster.

That truly is an amazing watch!!! I confess that I haven't given the yachtmaster much attention, but the fact that it is platinum really earns my respect!!!

I'm not trying to throw a stick in the wheels here but can anyone really see a discernible difference in the platinum bezel and the rest of the watch that is SS. I'm not sure I can. It is a nice looking watch but it is in a different category from the other sport Rolex watches IMO. Certainly a step in the more bling direction.

Really thats why I went with the TT, I tried them both on but to me for the difference the TT was the way to go. Don't get me wrong I love the platty but for the difference IMHO the TT was worth the extra $$.

I agree with you - why did Rolex put Platinum as the metal of choice for the bezel?

It looks no different to high polished Steel.

I know it has been criticised as "A sub with a bit of platinum, less water resistance and more cost" but I love mine :)

All the best,

Harry

i never liked the ss/plat YM because it is colorless and reminds me of a blingy sub
i much prefer subs, SD, daytonas or even the TT and gold YM
the ss/plat YM just means nothing to me

The Ym SS/Pl is the easiest and comfortable Rolex pro to wear, is the most flat and have the best case in Rolex. Elegant and discreet at the same time, very different to other professional Rolex IMHO.

Agreed......only 12 mm in thickness, it is the slimmest in the sports line-up, and very elegant and comfortable to wear!!

There are some people who do prefer it over the submariner. But for me, it has zero desirability. I don't care for any of the color combinations or the overall look of the watch. The platinum version is the best of them, but it is way too "sparkly" for my taste. I even find the name pretentious and silly.

The submariner is the most common sports Rolex and probably one of the most recognized Rolex as well. The YM is the younger and more expensive sibling.

My first Rolex was a sub LV and I initially thought the platinum YM was too boring since it didn't have much color in it to stand out. But when I started trying it on and looking at it, it really is quite balance between a tool and dress watch. It is as durable as a standard sub, but it has just enough bling to dress it up. As for the TT and gold ones, just not my cup of tea.

The only problem with the platinum YM is that the dial may be difficult to read if your eye sight isn't the greatest.

Yacht Master cost

The YM is supremely comfortable & my favourite watch ever, but have to agree about cost issues. For the price of the thing, I wish Rolex had put a Daytona clasp on it.

I bought one simply because from the moment I saw it I went weak at the knees & had to have it.
