Specific Datejust 2 question, why doesn't it have glowing hands?

Hi all,

Last week I bought a brand new datejust 2 with blue face, baton dial and fluted bezel in silver and white gold from a local jewlers which many of my friends have used.

Upon closer inspection I've realised that the batons glow in the dark but the hour and minute hand do not...

I've seen on the Rolex website that the picture of the same watch seem to show it has hands that glow, same when I google image search. However, When I look at the Roman numeral face, they don't have glowing hands.

I'm abit confused/worried. Is this normal? Has anyone else experienced this?

Any input it appreciated!

I've attached an image.

I really think these are the wrong hands. As far as I know, this dial should have hands with lume. The roman and the one with diamonds have hands without. Again, as far as I know.

It should have hands like mine in the picture below...

Check out the DJII is the linked thread below...only ones with no lume get the hands like yours. Beautiful watch otherwise.

I nearly bought a blue DJ2 and had a good look at many models. The Roman dial has no lume but all the stick dials I saw had lume. I think your watch has the hands from a Roman dial model. Maybe the dial was swapped from one of those to sticks but not the hands. For me it was a deal breaker..I loved the Romans but love lume more so I was going for your model. I ended up with a blue dial Sub but that's another story.
What does it say on the paperwork for your watch..all the sruff you got with it?

A dial with luminous markers and hands with no lume would not be of much use to anyone.
It would seem that some parts have been swapped over.

Take it back and have it made right.......

Look at post 28 in the thread...Roman hands with no stick have no lume, nor due diamond hour marker DJIIs.

For whatever reason, the dial and hands are mismatched.

Rolex QC issue?? Swapped after leaving Rolex HQ??

This is brand new watch!? That's definitely messed up. If it was a preowned piece I'd understand that someone might have changed the hands, but for a brand new watch this is just not right, take it back asap.

I find it more odd that you (before logging out) sit and watch this thread for over an hour and don't reply to a simple question.

Being new to Rolex, he may not know that AD means Authorized Dealer

Well, he managed to ask the first question so what's preventing him from asking another?

It isn't from an approved dealer, no. However, It was ordered in for me. It has all the documentation, box etc and was new with stickers, casings etc, never worn.

I've contacted them and they have said they will send it back to Rolex for it to be changed or they will replace with a new one. All under warranty.

I don't know why anyone would have it with the dial to illuminate and the hands not...!

Very unusual if this is a BNIB
The mismatch had to be from a redial, I can't imagine it leaving Rolex this way .

Dude, don't hound people on the forum.

Yeah, romans don't have hands with lume and dials get swapped all the time. Should be a free 20 minute fix from the dealer or at least not too big a deal elsewhere.

If you buy at an AD and it ends up not right, you don't like it, you want it exchanged, they do it. You try other ways of getting the watch, you get the watch and service you paid for

And worse case senerio, you don't even like or want the watch, changed your mind, buyers remorse, they give you your money back

That for those that don't know or haven't had the "AD experience" what it is all about. You get want you want in perfect condition and you are totally satisfied

Hope things work out for you, it is s beautiful watch

Make sure you are dealing with a reputable Dealer. A non-authorized Dealer can neither "send it back to Rolex" or "order it in" from Rolex. They are doing it in-house and likely changed the dial one-from-another for you. (or their non-Rolex source did).

My AD in short hills nj would not let me exchange my explorer 3 days later. Absolutely no returns he said once sized and warranty card swiped. I was so pissed. Took a loss and traded plus cash for GMT two tone from one of our TRF trusted sellers.

Send a picture of the outer box sleeve sticker. It'll tell us exactly what config this watch left the factory with.
If you don't have it, well...
