Anybody on here have OCD?

How do you guys deal with polished center links and getting micro scratches on the clasp and bracelet in general and dying to figure out how it happened? How do you respond to these tiny little scratches, do you cape cod them, any of you guys constantly wash your watch under the sink to keep it glistening?

I just got my watch and my OCD is taking over, I understand scratches will happen and what not, but I'm sure I'm not the only one obsessed with keeping finger prints off of it, and constantly question where every scratch came from.

What your guys tips and tricks on keeping it clean and glistening? Also I'm wondering if washing it once a day underneath a sink and towel drying it, if it'll cause any surface scratches or will effect the luster of the bezel and PCL?

I use a soft toothbrush and wash the watch with Vareat.

How often? I've heard obsessive cleaning etc will cause it to lose it's luster. I carry a microfiber cloth with me and every now and then I will pull it out to give it a quick polish to remove finger prints etc. Would this cause micro scratches or any damage to the watch in the future?

I've had mine for 2 days, and I already noticed a couple micro scratches near the clasp, I assume from my nail probably bumping into the clasp itself or links near it. I'm starting to care less but still, I'm not ready to see scratches on it just yet

I've got a Datejust II with PCL and to be honest I'm half way between the two. I'm not all too bothered about scratches appearing on the PCL as it's unavoidable, but I do wash my watch with a brush and dry with a very soft microfiber and it glistens after the clean. I do the wash whenever I feel like it, no set times.

I've just come to realise that when the time comes for a service my watch will come back like new from RSC (fingers crossed lol) so with that in mind I wear the watch and forget about it.... To an extent, I won't wear it to do messy rough stuff.

It's not going to lose luster. Buy the Vareat and thank me later. I clean my watch with a soft toothbrush and Vareat at least once a week. If I'm in a rush I'll just use soap and water, but the brush is good because I can clean between the links. The Vareat is great because it doesn't leave a film like most soaps do.

I have OCD with certain things, having scratches on PCL is not one of them. It is just a watch, and you can polish it every so often but in the end it will get scratched again.

I was thinking of buying the veraet kit for 65 bucks, comes with the microfiber cloth and drying cloths, etc etc, everything you need for it. I've heard great things about it.

I know Rolex are expensive watches and because of that we all want to take extra care of it... but you will run yourself crazy if you allow the OCD to kick in :) before you know the watch will spend more time in the box/drawer/safe instead of the wrist...

I decided just to enjoy the watch and let it be... of course I am still careful but I don't panic like I used to... Once a week I just run it through warm water mixed with a little neutral soap to keep it clean...

I do not remember paying that much for the "kit" although it would be well worth the investment. Using the spray weekly keeps things nice and clean.

So true but don't forget the day or two of dying over that first scratch that some day down the line you won't even see due to all the others that will follow.

Could you PM me where you got yours from? The one I'm looking at comes with two bottle sprays, brush, drying cloths and microfiber cloths.

I think thats why a lot of members on here prefer brushed center links as well. Less maintenance.

But yeah scratches will happen and thats that…every so often you can polish up the centers and sides back to new. Piece of cake. Learn to use a buffing wheel and it will save you time and money.

I have had my new Bluesy Sub C for six weeks and it got those fine scratches starting on the clasp in a few days. No deep ones. It's not as bad as I thought it would be.I have an Explorer II as well and the brushed links on it just barely show anything. If it REALLY bothers you I recommend selling the watch and getting a reference with BCLs . There are a few great ones to choose from. I just don't work with my Bluesy on.

We are all a bit OCD about our watches in one way or another, but once you get over it you enjoy it a bit more. However, that doesn't mean I put it in harms way on purpose or that I like deep scratches or gouges, but the normal scratches of daily life become like its patina.

We do have a member on this forum, who is so aware of his watch all the time, that he never scratches it.
But unfortunately we don't all have such superpowers and so we simply don't worry about it.
It can be polished, you can get a new bracelet, it's not like our modern Rolex watches will be rare or something or if they do, we won't be alive anymore to profit from it.

All your guys statements is very true and reassuring. Do you any of you guys still worry about polishing it every couple years to restore it from the scratches, etc, or use a cape cod cloth to polish the links?
