Rolex for the lady
Hi All - so i'm looking to pick up a piece for my wife and am having a hard time deciding whether to go with a vintage men's datejust or airking - something in the 34mm range or to start looking at the "womens" versions of the same thing. Can anyone comment (preferably those who have purchased for their significant others) what you went with and why.
She does have a small wrist, but we tried on some 32/34mm for sizing and it looked ok. Thanks, |

I went with a 26mm OP and it seems pretty small.
She has commented that it is too small sometimes and with a pink dial it can be difficult to read in a certain light. I have promised to look at something else with her soon. |

My former galpal loved a vintage silver Air King from the 1970s. I'm lucky I didn't get her one, because she dumped me and then I'd feel real bad.
The 36mm Explorer is awesome and looks great on a woman, though maybe a bit large for her taste. I strongly prefer it over the newer 39mm version. I have a 114270 for myself and love it. Here's a pic I snapped shortly after I got it, during my celebratory meal at my favorite fine restaurant. It's one very hot watch.

Hi. I share your position of what size.... I have been looking at 31mm, 34mm, 36mm with a 6 1/4 - 6 1/2 inch wrist.
I like the bigger faces, with lighter dials, with luminous darker hands and if possible luminous distinctive hour markers so I can actually see the time. No sense getting a ladies President (26mm) because I am not getting any younger and one of these days may need cataract surgery. So my thought is the bigger the better. I do like the dressy jewel bezels. Having a lot of trouble finding what I am looking for with my budget. The folks on the site are amazing, and have lots of tips. I am glad I found it. My wife opted for a 31mm TT DJ with diamond dial. She has a very old tt 26mm and just preferred the 31mm. She tried on some of the men's styles and decided they were too big. The 31mm is just right for her.

I recently went from wearing the 26mm ladies size for ~14 years to a 36mm YG DD. after wearing the DD for two weeks, I bought a 36mm SS DJ because I just didn't see myself ever going back to the 26mm size and wanted a casual alternative to the DD that was more "everyday." FWIW, I have a 5.5" wrist.
Edited to add: It's all a matter of personal taste, style, etc. but I love when a lady wears a larger (typically men's size) watch. |

My wife likes the 31mm because it's an all around size. She also likes the 34 and 36 for more sporty look. White Daytona also looks great! If it's her one and only I would go 31mm with diamond markers and flutted bezel. Then get her a 34mm date for a sportier look.

I think the sweet spot will be between 31-36mm...lots of good options there. Good luck,

I think the 31 is a nice size for women. As has already been said, somewhere between 31-36 is probably the modern sweet spot. The 26 is very small looking these days.

I'm currently in the market and have been trying on various sizes recently. I was sure I'd go with the 26mm as I have a small wrist and all my other watches are petite. However, whilst it was beautiful on, the minute I put on the 31mm I knew it was love at first sight.
I would advise including your good lady in the purchase. That way she can choose what she feels is best. If you do want to surprise her, just make sure you have a solid return policy so as to ensure its not going to end up in the safe, unworn. Good luck with your shopping and hats off to you for buying such a wonderful gift. |

I may be wrong, but I feel like all of the other Rolex watches in the 31-36mm size range tend to be dressier DateJust, Pearlmaster, or Oyster Perpetual models. Happy to be proven wrong, as I'd love a smaller (<35mm) sport/tool Rolex watch for my wife. It may be heresy to mention this here, but Omega does make a number of smallish sporty models for women, if you're interested. While they are bigger than the size range you mentioned, the 37.5mm SeaMaster and 38mm SpeedMaster are two examples. |
