Explorer 1 36mm too small?
I know a lot of guys wear this size of watch and manage to pull it off. It looks like a toy on my wrist! Actually bought it for my wife. It's our 19th wedding anniversary.

I have a 36mm Ex in my collection, but I have a 6.5 inch wrist. I say it looks good on you.

Assuming that's your wrist, it fits you very well.

Explorer 1 36mm too small?
It's odd how it looks well proportioned in the photo, but feels small. I guess it's the preponderance of large watches these days. Perhaps if I hadn't been wearing my Pam 112 before I put the Explorer on,it would not have felt tiny!

I find the latest explorer at 39mm looks like a child's watch on my 7.5 inch wrist, the exp 2 at 42mm looks about the right size as does the 44mm SDDS IMHO.

Its only to small if you have been stereo typed into believing its too small, and on your wrist looks fine, but would look even better if worn above the wrist bone IMHO the proper place to wear any watch..

I think 36mm is the sweet spot for the Explorer.

Looks great!
Personally, I prefer to wear the watch, rather than have the watch wear me...so, a 36mm is a great size. 40mm watches, like the Submariner, work well. I enjoy my Navitimer, an older model, in the classic 43mm size. Can I get away with it? Sure. Is it really as well proportioned to my wrist as, say, a 36mm Oyster Perpetual? No. The reason the 36mm looks smallish to your eye, as you suggested, is your eye was accustomed to larger watches, like the Panerai. Wear the Explorer exclusively for awhile...your eye will adjust and those larger watches may look too large. But don't worry. When you want to change up, just allow your eye to adjust to the new size. |

The Explorer looks good on you. Try it for a week. As I rotate watches, the "too-large"/"too-small" feeling lasts about a day or so.

Sometimes it's hard to see perfection even when you're looking right at it. Give it a little while...

Perfect size imo, was thinking about getting a new explorer but dont like the 39mm sizing.
36mm is just perfect. Shows a little larger on picture (same with the datejust) but that means it is perfect IRL :)

I thought the 39mm looked better, but not for $2500 more money.
Standing alone it's size and face make just perfect IMHO I figured the 14270 would be a flipper, but I just love it! I like a 36-40mm watch. I found this beastly 42mm $100 Croton watch metal detecting in the surf, and whenever I wore it I hated the weight and the attention it drew. My employees noticed, customers noticed each time and would ask me about the junker.. FWIW... 7" wrist Nobody has asked me about the Explorer yet... under the radar classy cool...LOL |
