price/ value of Rolex

I'm new to luxury watch. Just wonder is Rolex trying to catch up with other brand ( PATEK, AP....etc) in terms of Price and status? Or just their brilliant marketing strategy?
What I'm trying to say is, like car industry, patek is like Ferrari, Rolex is like Audi, even though Audi make some expensive car but their range is wide, from sedan to SUV to sports car, as Ferrari only super car, more exclusive. In the last few years, price of Rolex keep going up and up.

Well one things for sure Rolex is not exclusive simply millions upon millions of them in this world today so would doubt if they are trying to catch up with anyone. And afraid today in this brand stereo typed world, many wear the brand and not the watch, and know nothing about the workings or history of the brand..

Seems to me that Rolex is the most recognized watch in the world and doesn't need to catch up to anyone. They're doing just fine.

And Rolex is the most valuable watch brand as well, according all reports, and likely makes most money.

With their volume, Rolex is never going to be like Patek, and don't need to be, Rolex is laughing all the way to the bank.

I wish prices would keep going up, they have come to a stop just as my buying has stepped up, thought these things were supposed to make me money!

Just switch over to PP for now then, Neil. The recent price reduction should help.

So tired of all the automotive analogies and fixation with model year and service interval. What the heck. No! Rolex is not Audi. A fourty year old Audi is just an old Volkswagon. The Audi will be worth it's weight in scrap iron. The Rolex, assuming it's a sports model will be worth many times it's weight in gold.

I should go on to say in another 40 years, Ferrari will still be Ferrari. AP, Patek, AP, and Rolex will still be worth near what new watches would go for in 2055.

Price is directly related to demand. As long as we are talking about Rolex, just look at the difference in street prices among similar models. The Deep Blue sells for full list price (or even more) and the "regular" Deep Sea seems like a screaming bargain in comparison! Like the saying goes, "if you have to ask..."

rolex doesn't have to catch up to any brand. it's quality speaks volumes for itself. imvho of course.
