Bubbleback Cali dial advice
Hello everybody,
My first post on the forum, I'm mainly active on wus altough I wouldn't mind to deal more with vintage rolexes and discuss them here,we'll see:) So, long story short, I got offered a bubbleback with california dial and would like to ask for your opinions. As with all vintage watches, in first place I'm interested in its authenticity, if the dial, case, hands, caseback, movement are matching as I couldn't find the exact same model online.Theoretically its a ref.3065(these are the only pics I have in the moment) I am not sure if it's allowed or common practice to make valuations here on the forums, but if somebody knows the approximate value of these models, I would appreciate the info. Yes, I know of course that it's impossible to give valuations online and based on pics but let's assume its in normal working condition, normal timekeeping but unknown service history and cosmetically in a shape as on the pics. I wouldn't mind to do my research, but the wide spectre of prices I see of various bubblebacks are a bit confusing. Every additional info regarding the watch is welcome, thanks in advance for all replies! S |

If anybody could point me towards a bubbleback authority, that would be also very helpful, thanks!

It's all authentic down to the crown, the strap/clasp is likely a bit later, hard to tell from pics.
If you would've taken the time to read our forum rules (such a silly concept) you'd see no Valuation threads is one of the first. You are free to post the asking price though, and I'm sure you'll receive a bit of feedback. There are a few members who have some nice bubblebacks and a wealth of knowledge about them, I'm sure they'll comment on the watch as well. The patina is pretty cool, hard to tell if it's radium burned or caused by humidity though. Probably viewed more as a damaged dial though since the text is practically gone |

I found in the meanwhile the forum rules but can't edit my post afterwards, so please ignore my question regarding the value. Unfortunately I'm not able to tell a precise offered price either because it's a trade offer for 2 other specific watches with no clear market prices(trench watch and a pocket watch with local significance) but lets say around 3K so let me preformulate my question,is theoretically $3K too much or sounds like a very good deal for this piece? Yes, I like patina and aged dials too but its a bit over the line, the text is pretty much unreadable and I'm not a fan of altering anything on an original dial... Thanks, S |

It's not a ref. 3065 (replacement case back apparently), but a 3372. The 3065 was "hooded"; the 3372 has this particular engine-turned gold bezel (or steel with a different pattern). The dial looks original, though markedly aged. If the dial were in finer condition, the watch would be relatively valuable ($4-5K range perhaps), not as much as it is here. Also, the replacement case back obviously has some negative effect on value.
