VintageLadies Rolex President
I have a situation that I'd like some suggestions about. I got a used Ladies President Rolex some years ago that I've worn for years. I think it was about a 1970's-ish model but it came with a dial that had diamonds where the numbers are. Later I bought an after market diamond bezel for it and then later an aftermarket bracelet. When they installed the bracelet they took the original Rolex clasp and put it on the new bracelet. I have also replaced the original plastic crystal with an aftermarket sapphire crystal. Here is my situation. My Mother died about 3.5 years ago and she also had a Rolex President. She bought hers new - about 1991 - and over the years bought a diamond string dial and a diamond bezel - all official Rolex. So now I have that one. She told me once that when she died and I inherited her watch that she wanted me to trade both of them in and buy a new one for myself since I didn't get a new one to begin with. I took both of them to the same jeweler that she bought her watch from and he told me that I didn't need to purchase another watch - that it would look the same and nobody would know I had a new watch except me and that a Rolex watch - if maintained would last a lifetime. I will admit that I do have some sentimental attachment to my Mother's watch and finally decided to keep it. I also thought about buying a new bracelet for it but the jeweler also talked me out of that and said I didn't need it. I have the original box and papers for my Mother's but of course none for my original second hand watch. But I have had it serviced regularly and it runs perfectly. But I don't need two ladies President watches. Does anybody have any suggestions about what would be a decent/fair price to ask for my 'old' watch? Thanks for any suggestions.

No idea on value but I think you are making the right decision. Keep Mom's watch and sell yours. Perhaps one day your daughter will get that same watch and the tradition continues...

Wear your moms and sell yours. Go to eBay and look up your model number it's probably a 6917. You can confirm the model by taking off the band, the model number is listed between the lugs. This will give you an idea of what they are going for.
You can always post it for sale here on TRF. Good luck. |
