Explorer 11
Hi,
Thinking of purchasing. White or black face? Any feedback from owners? |

Try both on and see which one works for you. Many different opinions around here.

There are countless threads on this subject. It all comes down to you and trying both on the wrist. Search "Explorer II" I went in with the idea of black, tried both on - completely sold on polar.

You will get a ton of responses which go:
Black White Black White. Same as if you ask Pepsi or Coke. Pepsi Coke Pepsi Coke... Which one do you like? If you like both equally, flip a coin! ;-) |

Looked at both yesterday. I have a Subc so I would buy the white face because I'd want a different look. If getting a first Rolex would get the black as it may be a little more versatile. That's just my thinking. Doesn't mean it's correct.

Had the white, sold it and now want to buy the white again. My personal preference. Like the white because there are so many black dialed watches out there I would not mind adding to my collection.

White is great. Much more legible and a nice change to all the black dial Rolexes.

We have a true to life explorer on our board who claims that the black dial has the best visibility under adverse conditions.
Or was it white? I can't remember now.

If you're talking current models, looks, black, legibility, white IMO.

For the Explorer 2 I would always pick white. If I want a black dial watch there are a plethora of others I personally prefer.

Many black dialed watches. Few white faces. As a second or third watch get polar. See MCO1 above

Had the white 16570 sold it…….
FullSizeRender-5 by VIPGraphX, on Flickr and bought the Black 216570……… watch9 by VIPGraphX, on Flickr I chose the black because I liked the phantom hands and I liked the way the orange looked against the black dial better than the orange against the white dial. either way you can't go wrong!! |

I originally thought I liked white dialed watches more than black, but tried them on when I was looking for my first Rolex a few years ago, and was surprised I preferred the black. I think at the time I felt like the white was too casual for my first (and only) "luxury timepiece". I still think I would prefer the black for like a daily wearer, but if in a large collection with other black dials, the white would be a nice change of pace.

First, look at your current collection and determine what is the prevalent color of your dials. If it's black, go Polar on Explorer II.

The black dial is matt, so that is an unusual and attractive feature. But the white is a little different. If you already have one or more black dial watches, get the white.

The black dial was my initial preference amd actually the watch that really drew me to Rolex, however, during all of my research into them before buying I fell for the white dial the more I studied and looked at them. Also, I think there are more black dial options that I love out there that I went for a white I really loved. Now even about 3 years later I firmly believe I made the right choice for me. I still love it as much as the day ai bought it.

What makes this reference so special is that if you don't like the black dial you can always get the white one... And if the white one is not to you're taste there is always the black option available, and vice versa.

I have both and love both equally so it was easy for me. I love the white as it's very unrolled and I love the black as it's different from my black dialled watches.

Explorer 11? This thread must be ahead of it self.
BTW: Get the white dial. The black is just unbalanced (just look at the hands and their black part; all different). |

White. The dial really pops and gives a greater contrast with the other features of the watch.

Stock answer..by the one you like best.
In terms of legibility I thought the black one was the better to read on expedition. Yet just spent a week wearing the black on whilst on a camping trip. It's not as legible as the white one. My take, if you want one modern Rolex, and it's the explorer 2- go black. If you have another Rolex black dial, and you want another go white. The white is fantastic but I don't think it's a one only Rolex, the whites a bit much day in day out...but it is the better 'tool'. |
