Spontaneous Incoming!

I was at my AD and this watch was half price. It's a limited edition of 1888 with a low number and it's an in-house movement. I couldn't pass it up. I love it.

I'll post a wrist shot tomorrow.

Thanks fellows.

I was actually at the AD to check in on the Tudors and when they were coming in finally.

I spent a good deal of time telling the security man how much I liked FC styling, but how their cases are too large.

After I moved toward the door to leave, he asked for my phone number, so he could call when he knew something concrete and that's when this model caught my eye, as it was on a lower level than the other watches I was looking at earlier.

I asked to look at it and put it on. He checked the price for me and well, the rest is history.

Very nice watch . It sure has the Panda looks. And what was half the price here on this one if I may ask?

The regular price was $3275.

I paid 1755.19, including tax.

Given that there were 1888 pieces made, that's an interesting receipt number.

Thanks, Chuck and Alan.

I didn't mean to put this thread in the review forum, but since I did, I guess I can give some impressions, now that I've had the watch for 24 hours.

At 43mm, I might discount this watch on that basis alone if it were shown on a website, but actually, for a watch this big it is very comfortable.

The large lugs, bulbous mid-case, the domed bezel and the slightly domed sapphire crystal, give the watch a somewhat retro look in my view. Whatever else it might be called, it's certainly a manly watch.

I'm not big on exhibition backs, but this one is made special by the red and gold colored rotor that pays homage to the Peking to Paris race logo.

The high contrast dial is very easy to read, which is paramount to me, especially for a chronograph. The subdials are very legible and the dauphine hands show the time well, but don't obscure the subdials, making them a good choice for a chronograph. The buttons actuate with a definite and very positive click that offers a feel of quality.

The leather band with the deployant clasp is very comfortable. Aesthetically, I guess some might complain that the strap is not very thick, but on the other hand, the thinness of the strap facilitates the comfort.

That the watch is a limited edition, I doubt will have much effect on value in my lifetime, if ever. I guess it might depend on how Frederique Constant fares in the future. At any rate, it doesn't devalue the watch and I suppose makes it something of a conversation piece.

I've been waiting for a mechanical or automatic chronograph for some time, but just haven't found one as compelling as this one.

The Speedy Pro has been at the top of my list for a long time. For some reason I've just never "squeezed the trigger." I'll probably get one eventually, but for now, the "Peking to Paris" chronograph has eased that itch quite a bit at a very good price.

Sorry I missed this post Grady.

Yes mine is also a numbered piece. I can't stop looking at it still.

Is yours still getting the majority of your wrist time?

Pretty much. I picked up my Sub a couple of days ago, so it's been on my wrist, it's likely that the FC will continue to dominate for awhile.

Thank you all!

Yes, Brian. I'm not really superstitious in the least, but sometimes there occurs a coincidence that seems to validate an event.
