Holy Trinity of New Rolex Sports Watches?
Does anyone have an opinion on THIS idea for a the Ultimate 3 piece Rolex Sports Watch Collection (3 pieces only).
I do pretty well so within 2 years I could complete this trilogy. Here is what makes this special IMO. a. WG, YG and PT (one of each) b. A Diver Watch, Chrono Watch and a GMT Watch (one of each) c. All sports watches d. New models only e. All Rolex of course So here it is: My Rolex Holy Trinity (Because one grail watch is just NOT enough). 1. WG Rolex Sub 116619LB Smurf (owned) 2. YG Rolex GMT Master II 116718 (not owned yet) - Black Dial 3. Platinum Daytona 116506 (not owned yet) - Ice Blue Dial What would you add/subtract/change to make the ultimate 3 piece Rolex Sports Watch Collection? New models only please... |

For me, if we are going PM, it would be the following:
1. Submariner Date 116618 LB 2. GMT Master II 116719 BLRO 3. Cosmograph Daytona 116505 (pink dial) Although I am not a fan of WG or platinum, the GMT in WG would be my choice as I feel that reference is the perfect representation of the classic GMT Master.

Same thoughts as you with the GMT, but seeing as I already chose a YG Sub in my "holy trinity" the WG would add diversity to the collection.

GMT and Sub v similar - would swap out the GMT with an EXP II Polar and there you go, job done.

Buy one first and see which direction it takes you. Otherwise it's just shopping by numbers.

Well, I would do this:
1) 114060 ND Sub. More true to original, stainless steel, the true tool watch. Under the radar. 2) BLRO GMT II. Now you have white gold, a super classic dial-bezel combo, a GMT complication and the date and the cyclops. Done. 3) Platona. Now you stepping up in the material even further. It is unique in how it looks (gorgeous ice blue and brown ceramic dial). So in my reasoning, you are building up gradually, a diverse collection that offers the best of what Rolex offers. You got your SS, Gold and PLatinum cases. You got your Diver, Pilot and Racer themes. You got your full diversity of color - black, red-blue, ice-cool brown. You DON'T get the cyclops on 2/3s of your watches, a feature I personally dislike. Also you dont have PCLs on every bracelet. So That trinity would tick all of my Rolex sports watch needs. Seeing as you have the Smurf Sub, I would go for BLNR GMT, and have some stainless steel in your collection, if you are SET on going with the Smurf. I just think a white gold submariner as a tool watch is over the top, it's the full Msport performance package on a 318d BMW. Just an overkill. But if you love the blue, I can't talk you out of it and BLNR arguably won't be enough. Just think a Sub ND is a very nice addition to a diverse collection, purely from an aesthetics point of view. cheers!
