is $11K good for a 84-99 WG Day Date?
It has the president bracelet, roman numerals, white face, fluted bezel. From a private collection, mint condition, still in box.
I have never owned a Rolex, this would be my first. I see the yellow gold Day Dates are very easily had for less, and they definitely get more attention..but Im not sure thats my style. I like to fly in style, but under the radar. I think a WG Day Date is right up my alley. I have always been a big watch fan, and I looked back at all the money I had spent on other lower-quality (and cost) watches, and I thought to myself: "I could have had a Day Date, or almost paid off one at least" So 3 years ago I stopped buying watches, and got rid of them all...Ive been watchless for around 3 years so I think it is about time. That is a LONG time for a watch nut to go without a watch...especially if you are really busy. My birthdays soon anyways! :) I have asked the seller to remove the band and get the serial # for me, and he is supposed to get back to me with the actual model #. It looks to be an 18239. It does look extremely well kept. I just want to make sure I am getting the best deal I can, I wouldnt want to find out later that I had overpaid. I did see another one, mint, same everything, for $12k..with a "lifetime warranty" which I am assuming isnt worth the paper it is printed on lol. Ive never had good luck with warranties being honored. If anyone can recommend a good place to get a WG Day Date with the president band...that DOES have a decent usable warranty...Im open to suggestions. I saw Beckertime, which DOES have a lifetime trade-up guarantee..but everything there seems so overpriced, Its not even worth it. Or is it just me? thanks! :) |

What's an 84-99 White Gold Day-Date? Are you referring to the year it was made? If so, 15 years is big range.

I have had a YG DD for years and it really gets no attention but I digress... if WG is what you like, then awesome, but the color of the gold has little to do with the price ( don't let him fool ya) ...check the band for stretch.. Pass on the watch if it droops way down when holding it sideways... An 18239 would fit in your "years spread", but how well do you know the seller? Be careful, shop well

I would say the price of the Day Date is about right. My recommendation would be to source a 118239 instead. But be prepared to add around 4K above the one you are looking at.
Lifetime trade up schemes do not interest me. So that would be something I would probably avoid as there seems to be a cost associated with that. May be a good idea to reach out to a trusted seller right here to see if they can locate one for you. |

I found out after taking off the band that it was an 18039...Serial # 7308513. Im going to have to pass on it. I think a minimum I should go for the 18239. Its mint condition for sure, but I feel like $9 or $9500 would be more fair since a newer one could probably be had for 11K. |

I guess Id have to own both to have an objective opinion though. And yea, Id defininitely pass on an band that has stretch, cheaper to just buy a better one. Less headache and its original. |

I may just wait and save more to get a newer one. I dont really want to get anything so old, unless its for a crazy low price. A very trusted friend has offered me an 1803 as basically a gift. I might just use that one in the meantime. He let me borrow his yachtmaster today for a week or two so I can see if I like that one. Its OK. I still think I prefer the Day Date much more. :) Im not really a fan of the oyster bracelet it has, either. Im in love with the president bracelet. |

i need to check out the trusted vendors here. :) see what the prices/warranty/etc are looking like.
Am I picking a good first Rolex? Its the style I really like, and I feel like it will hold value well, and I am a real watch person so I can really appreciate the craftsmanship. I noticed a lot of people like the sportier rolexs, but IDK those Im just not a big fan of. The Daytona is pretty cool to me, as far as the more sportier ones go. |

Im so busy all the time, having the day of the week on my wrist actually will be way better than having to whip out my phone to check what day it is, lol. You dont need a rolex for that, but Im just saying, its a perk if Im picking.

Thats a beauty!
Thanks man. Im not in a big rush, Im sure the right deal will come along eventually :) It wont take me long to get the other 4K.. If only I could come across one at that time that has arabic numerals, thatd hold me off for a long time Im sure. I like the way the Day Date II in 41mm *looks online as well, but the extra 10K or so isnt worth it to me right now. Id also have to try one to see if I really like it that big too. But in theory it looks pretty baller lol. I have a small wrist so I dont really think that larger size is warranted, it might look funny lol. IDK Ill have to try one on. Thanks a lot for the replies guys. Im excited to participate in discussion here finally. Ive only lurked a little over the past year. |

It all depends on condition with 18k pieces.

Thank you!
I'm hoping the eventual 2016 GTG date will fit into your schedule!

I'm looking for a 118238. I'm a little scared to buy one as I'm not really sure if the 36mm size is a little outdated in today's standards and I would want to keep it for a long time. Also not sure how I know how good the condition is on a new watch.

I know that some ebayers may be a little higher in price. However, the truth of the matter is that you get what you pay for. When it comes to the watch, for me, condition of the watch is key. Some people simply much prefer purchasing new; however, like a new a car coming out of the lot, when the stickers come off of the new watch it depreciates a good deal. When it comes to white market dealers outside of ADs, the reviews are key. I personally enjoy dealing with Jon Todd at Sant Blanc. Some of the prices may be a bit higher, but I can't argue with the superlative service. The gourmet chocolates that they have also get me. haha.
Best regards in your endeavors. |

New or Used is also more of a preference as well (for me anyway). I have had used watches that I wouldn't trade for new, and I have had new that I admire also. |
