Is the SS SubC
Hello all, I've been on TRF for a while. I was looking at the current buyers and sellers markets on our website classified section, as well as Rolex General Discussion. Is it me, or are others seeing a trend where the 114060 seems more liked than our beloved 116610? With the new band, solid case, and ceramic bezel, the 114060 seems more liked, and less buyers remorse having purchased a no date SubC. I think the 114060 will soon be on top of the Sub Date. I mean, we all carry cell phones that have the date anyways. I don't know..... So thoughts Please?

Yes, there is no debate, the 114060 is the best Sub.
that is, unless they have a 116610, then that is the best sub (date) |

And, we already have phones which tell the time as well, so I'm not sure the argument against the date function holds water. |

I personally do not care for the date but I am in love with the Cyclops. And since you can't just slap a cyclop on the face to magnify an hour marker... Easy.

People like it coz it's cheaper, no one's got any cash round here
Seriously tho both watches are iconic in their own ways now and both have lots of fans. |

No proclamation or personal "feeling" makes it so. Even if what you've noticed on this site was true, it's an exceedingly small sample size with the added ambiguity of possibly being a temporary trend. So without hard numbers I would say your theory is a little damp.

It's probably about half and half, give or take, on this forum. Which, as Marc said, is a very small percentage of the entire Rolex wearing population. So exactly what that means is...
they're both great watches with strong fan bases? |

Good points by all. I will agree with some, with the exception of being cheaper and were broke which is why we didn't select the date feature. I don't think a person smacking down 8 stacks for a watch is broke in the least, and could surely find an additional 1,000 for the date feature if need be..

Here in Bangkok I can get a discount on a SubC but they won't budge on a SubC Date. They tell me that most Thai's are not interested in the SubC because the Date is seen as being better because it's got an extra complication and is more expensive. That's what they told me. Having an LVc I would definitely get the SubC if I was buying a black sub. I love the symmetry of the dial and all my other watches have dates if I should need that on a particular day

It's a good UTR rolex without the Cyclops. Before I became more educated in here about Rolex I didn't realize one was manufactured without a date. I guess I didn't pay enough attention to the Rolex Website...
If I bought a Sub I'd probably opt for the no date version. |

In Asia, most people identify Rolex with cyclops. So any Rolex with cyclops will not have discount. For me I would prefer the 114060 for Sub. I love the symmetry. If I want a cyclops, I would get either a GMT Master II or Exp II.

I have a 14060 and a 114060 so I am a little biased when it comes to not having a date function! ;)

I think the 114060 is so beloved (full disclaimer: I am a former owner) is because it is closer to the original Submariner which lacked a date. It is therefore more classic. There is also something unique about the 114060 in that it only comes in steel and with the classic black bezel. You can make the argument that it is more of a tool watch than the date models as the date option is considered an additional luxury not required for a dive watch. Then again, the watch has a ceramic bezel so to be fair, it's a luxury watch itself.

I think they both have a lot of fans and are iconic in their own right. I own a 114060 and bought it after intending to buy a date version. Just fell in love with the symmetrical dial. I think the SubC is appreciated by WIS at a higher % than the general population because most WIS are not concerned with the watch being so recognizable and focus on the asthetics, history etc. To the general public a sub with a Cyclops is instantly recognizable. My subC usually flies under the radar, but when people have noticed the watch i have had several say "beautiful watch" and then if they look closely seem say "oh it's a Rolex" with some surprise. Ok by me.

I love both 114060 and 116610!! One has great symmetry, and other one has date function.
I already have a 14060 2-Liner ( IMO is the cleanest dial ) , so if I do get the Sub Ceramic, it would be a 116610! |

Love my 114060. I already had a 16610 LV so I wanted a no date for the clean/ classic look.

If I was starting over and I was only going to own one dive watch from Rolex, the 114060 is the piece I would get. If I had to consider a model with a date, I'd go with the Sea Dweller. |

Personal preference.
If I had to guess, I would say the Sub Date sells in higher numbers.

For me I own other Rolexes with dates, so it had to be the 114060, and no remorse.
