Golden Slacks Rolex Comment

Came across this gem of a post.

Considering the vast BMW owners on the forum...

And what does his analogy-101 textbook say about judging people by the car they drive or the things they wear? Pretty base-level summation with the exact same lack of creativity he's accusing us of.

As a proud owner of a Rolex collection that's well on it's way to greatness and 3-series driver, I'm actually impressed Goldman Sachs executives were able to use complete sentences while fellating each other

Love what he says about

Panerai: It’s an action hero watch for the guys who brag about cheating on their wives.

IWC: This is the watch for the guy who gets cheated on by his wife.

Richard Mille & Franc Muller: These watches are best left to the RAVs (Russians, Arabs, and Villains)

Seems like they are both the same guy (the website and the Twitter handle):

"John LeFevre is the creator of @GSElevator on Twitter, and the author of a new book and New York Times bestseller, Straight To Hell: True Tales of Deviance, Debauchery, And Billion-Dollar Deals"

Though, I don't understand how people can go through this much trouble bashing all these different watches, and not even get the name correct:

"My starter watch was a Rolex Just Date."

Ugh

That is pretty funny, really.

Don't take it so seriously. And he is satirizing Wall Street and NY investment bankers more than watch nerds. Relax.

Don't be one of those guys who gets all spun up over whether Superman can beat up Batman.

Well, there are many people who buy Rolexes and BMWs not because they're really into watches or cars but simply for the brand names, and they don't really have anything interesting to say about either.

the guy is a pin-head.

A 3 series BMW for fun doesn't show what you still have in the garage; a single Rolex on the wrist doesn't tell what you have home in the safe..

He states he was once mugged for his watches in London at 3:00 am ,and again was mugged in Hong Kong at 3:00 am. He is either very unlucky or a bar troll, either way not very bright .

I don't agree with what he said but perhaps he was implying that Rolex have become somewhat pedestrian. I have owned many Rolex over the years and admire the brand a great deal. Now wearing AP because it's something different. I think Rolex suffers the fate of attracting some buyers who are overly concerned about what their watch says about them. Note the word "some". I don't see that kind of analysis on the AP or Patek forums for example.

No offense please to the avid fan base of true collectors of Rolex. Just an observation that the brand seems to attract some folks who are self-defined by what's on their wrist. Those who think that dropping 8k on a watch means they have arrived. The exact mindset Rolex advertising of nearly 100 years has sought to achieve. All good.

Shouldn't have posted the link, now I'm kinda sad, that many members here can't recognize a joke when they read one.

That GS quote and the BI article are all just for fun.
Even the Rolex Just Date. That's actually quite clever.

Yes, we should live our own lives.
Paraphrasing what I read somewhere:

When you're 20, you think everyone is thinking or talking about you
When you're 40, you'd don't give a damn what anyone thinks or says about you
When you're 60, you realize no one was ever really thinking or talking about you...

I still don't think you guys it. Google "Goldman Sachs Elevator Gossip". He would post the most obnoxious, douche bag type things to ridicule the smug arrogant Wall Street guy. He never worked at GS. Relax. Have a laugh. Some of my favorites "I don't have a protective case for my iPhone. I'm neither clumsy nor poor." "My garbage disposal eats better than 98% of the world." "Football season is the only time of the year when unemployed people know when Monday is."

It's interesting how some articles discredit Rolex wearers or put down gold watches. Back in the day, these were things that people aspired to acquire.

These are some funny ones...

So true! It's happening!

Goes back to the Panerai / IWC post 👍

My first job was at GS in new york. Everybody there read this guy's tweets. Since he presented himself as a NY-based investment banker at GS, I do believe GS was actively trying to find the employee behind the tweets. They probably tried to get it taken down but don't own the rights to the acronym GS. Can only imagine the reaction of their publicity arm when it turned out to be a non-employee halfway across the world.

About 50% of my colleagues thought the whole thing was serious

Those are some good quotes, pretty clever. As far as a 3 series BMW, I'm not so sure people look at it and think money..
