Whats with all the hate on Rolex?

Well a few days ago I got my first new Rolex, it is a 2 tone submariner and honestly I love it! Now reading up on forums and listening to what people say I always Hear "Rolex is over rated" or "their are much better watches out there' and alot of people say its a shitty watch. Being that I am a newbie to all this I am wondering what is with all hate for Rolex. I love mine and have no complaints. So I am confused why alot of people think so low of them.

most people that aren't into watches just associate rolex with a lot of $$$ and don't understand why something can cost so much. little do they know there are a lot more $$$ watches out there.

my friends don't understand why I bought a rolex but I don't care, it makes me happy

some of my friends into watches think there are better values out there with watches that have more "character" it is all subjective. I say just buy what you like.

BTW congrats on the new purchase

Rolex is a widely misunderstood brand. It doesn't seem to command the same broad level of respect that it did 25 years ago. Whether that says more about society or about Rolex itself, I don't know, but I won't be losing any sleep over it. If the stigma bothers you, get a Tudor

It's not the watches they hate, it's a lot of the people that wear them. In time, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. Enjoy that fine timepiece, it's a very personal item that will be your constant companion during what I hope will be many excellent years and adventures.

I've met people who have had that opinion. None of them have ever owned one. None of them ever even owned a nice watch. Some of them changed their mind when I handed them the watch off my wrist to try on.

who ever told you that probably:

A. Has never owned a Rolex.
B. Is uneducated on watches.

This is actually funny to read. "its a shitty watch" That's hysterical. AP and Patek's are no better than Rolex's in my opinion. It really all depends on the wearer. I don't like taking my Audemars Piguet in the water because I'm worried it would leak. On the other hand, I love taking my Rolex SubC in the water, and would do the same with any Rolex. Does that make my AP a "shitty watch". Wear that 2 Tone Rolex Sunburst Blue with pride. That thing is a beauty. I'd take that over my AP ROC which costs twice as much retail.

Thank you! Yes I feel like it is just misinformation to be honest. No watch is a shitty watch.

Heres a pic!

Most people I know love Rolex, whether one can afford it or not
or willing to spend the amount of money on a timepiece is a different
story. Theres always MK for the haters, but the confidence associated
with the real deal is worth it to me at least ,not to mention everything else, for me it gives me the pleasure of completion, quality is incredible, the fit & finish is amazing from its subtle to not so subtle hues, nothing else feels the same for my go to watch. The world of Rolex is a mysterious one to the uninformed, that being said Rolex has exploded in the last 15 years & has created/creating a severe following.
The real question here is if you are content with one piece.

Here is some info that might help you appreciate the brand more
particularly 10-12.

I think you'll find that most people who loudly badmouth Rolex watches have not only never owned one but have also never even handled one.

I tell you what..I just got my Hulk LV here about 2 weeks ago..brand new and I havent worn it yet and its in the winder, people here know..LOL.
HOWEVER, being in the winder, it has allowed me to observe it alongside my TAG and Omega SMPc. Here is my observation:

TIME KEEPING: Tag Aquaracer does NOT come close. Dont need to be said.
the OMEGAS are keeping superb time, maybe a 2 minute or 3 off my cell phone time.
But the ROLEX is spot ON! Maybe 1 MIN, at the most.
Now I KNOW why people buy a ROLEX. It is PURE reliability. You KNOW, that you will NEVER get stranded with a ROLEX or an OMEGA. They are just simply reliable, 100%.

I compare ROLEX to Google search. It is NO frills, but it elegant, tough, beautiful, reliable, and will never let you down.
The one watch that has come close is my Speedmaster MoonWatch.
Now if we want to talk about Legacy and History, SubC and Moonwatch, NO watch comes close in heritage. PERIOD!..:)

Now can I have my Rolex GROUPIE card now pls? LOLOL

Those that hate Rolex are those who usually know little or nothing about watches, except what they have heard other Rolex haters say. Rolex is a brand unique in the watch world. Thee are many other brands with nice in-house movements, but none with the heritage and reputation, earned over many years, of Rolex. I am a former watchmaker and for me nobody comes close to Rolex. Sure there are many nice watches, reliable and rugged, but nothing compares to Rolex.

Hate the product? Ridiculous.

Be very dissatisfied with the service center? That I can understand.

It's easy to criticise 'luxury items' when you don't know anything about them.
The only criticism that counts is a reasoned one from someone who does.
Even then it's a matter of taste.

In a word, resentment. To the Rolex haters, a Rolex is the quintessential symbol of "I'm better than you".

People who "hate Rolex" hate the idea of what a Rolex represents and, to them, the stereotypical person who would own and wear one. Most of, but not all of, the haters can't afford one, so it makes them feel inferior or inadequate. They're typically not watch enthusiasts. They probably work long, hard hours and feel underpaid. These people make up the majority of the population. They can't get past the idea that it's not fair some people are more successful than they are despite the hater's best efforts. Seeing a Rolex watch, to them, means the wearer is gloating and rubbing their money and status in their face. Often the haters acutely perceive a sense of superiority being projected from the watch, and by association, the wearer. To a hater, a Rolex costs so much more money than they could ever justify spending on something frivolous. The fact that the wearer can do that and the hater can't only compounds the resentment with envy. They want it and hate it at the same time.

When I started my adult life, I started off broke. I had nothing. Now I'm someone who wears a Rolex, drives a BMW, wears designer clothes, lives in a big space, doesn't live paycheck to paycheck, doesn't work a regular grueling 9-5, and who doesn't have the normal life stressors that consume a hater's thoughts. Because I started from nothing, I appreciate and love my life every single day. A lot of people on this forum are like this as well, living their own versions of relatively privileged lives. The only way a hater can be cured of his hater thoughts is for him to succeed and thrive and earn enough money to indulge in and live these life circumstances for himself. Take away his reasons to resent Rolex and the guy who's wearing one. He needs to work so hard to feel that his success has been truly earned so he feels like the Rolex owner is not hurtfully superior, but his equal. He needs to be truly satisfied with his life and that he's done his best at it.

In the end it boils down to equality. If something about a person makes you feel unequal, that they're better or greater or above you, a part of you will hate them to some degree, big or small or almost unnoticeable. Unfortunately, that's human nature. That's competition. That's life.

Haters gonna hate!
