For the "fake patina" haters on the Black Bay
Do you also hate Panerai's "fake patina" on some of their watches also? I am just curious as I have seen people really poo poo the gilt dial on the Tudor Black Bay Black as well as the red one.

PAM and the BB in all iterations. But I don't love the faux patina. Not for me.

I think they are incredible too!! Not sure why anyone would trash the style as it completely matches the design.

I think the look is gorgeous. On my wrist? No, it is not my style. But the look deserves more love than it is getting.

Why would someone dislike a gilt dial on a new watch; that doesn't make sense.

I agree but it seems that there are a few people that have an issue with "remakes" of old watches I guess. I wanted to know if it was just Tudor's gilt dials or other watches too, most notably Panerais.

No offense, but maybe overthinking this? It's a nice piece at a great price point. It looks good and feels good, at least for me.

Omega also has a few serious pieces with faux patina. It's clearly a pretty popular style. Very attractive watches, for sure. The speedy 1957 just released is amazing.

Had a look at Speedy 57 too. Quite beautiful. Omega do it particularly well though not sure its faux patina as such, just modern remakes. Omega have an advantage over Rolex and Tudor in that their watches are generally more handsome pieces of design.

Not directed at you. Cheers! I think the gilt gives it a warm look.

I think a gilt dial is a little different than fake patina which is usually lume based. The gilt dial is designed to impart a vintage look but it doesn't seem as obvious an attempt as fake patina lume. I like the former and am a tad more critical of the latter if not used properly.

Faux patina is not my style. Many like it however and that is fine. Different strokes for different folks.

Complaining about fake patina is like refusing a custom aluminum bodied Shelby Cobra or Porsche 550...you know...because it is just not authentic. :(

I don't like it unless it aged naturally

I have no problem with appropriately shaded lume. Much prefer it to bright white.

I am not into "brand new antiques".
I would have appreciated a re issue of the old submariner exactly built like in the old age.

Except re-issues get to be a problem with materials like Radium. In a world where Luminova will probably never age, I would prefer a bit of pre-aging to something that will stay annoyingly white forever even as the rest of the watch takes on wear. Better a watch look a bit silly now with aged lume rather than silly forever when the dial and case and bracelet all have "patina" but the lume looks like it just left the factory.

More often then not, I dislike ecru lume, but it really depends on the individual watch. In this case, I think it's perfect.

I don't care.
At the new Omega Spectre the "Patina" looks extremely good.

I dont have any problem with the so-called faux patina. Although i appreciate those watches that are already "tested" by time and had a real patina, i will not over emphasize it. It is me who want to be able to live as long as (im)possible. Not my watches. Besides, there is no guarantee that my son will appreciate my watches when i pass it to him.
