GMT-Master 16710 or Sub 16610
After numerous trips, i am going into my nearby preowned boutique tomorrow to make my final decision.
I am stuck between these two watches, any suggestions? (this is my first Rolex if that changes anything) |

Whichever you like more. You add a complication that could be valuable to you depending on your lifestyle with the GMT. Just food for thought from a sub owner.

I've had both and they are both great watches. No real "right" answer here...

In the past, I would have chosen the Sub. But after over a decade of ownership of various Rolex watches I have come to respect the GMT like never before. For me, I feel the GMT is a better well-rounded watch than the Sub, albeit just by a margin. The GMT has a high enough depth rating than most people will ever need and the GMT function is a bonus for those who travel.

Can't go wrong either way, but you need both eventually. Trust me.

I am a GMT fan, and my first Rolex was a 16700. Both are awesome!

I own a sub and have owned a GMT in the past but prefer the sub. I for whatever reason have never had a problem figuring out time zones and I travel a lot. Just mental math for me.
That being said let me be the first to predict that you will own both. 👍 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Can't go wrong with either one. I'm partial to the GMT as you can switch up the look with the bezel colors. If you want the Sub look, throw on the black bezel. I usually wear the black bezel in the fall and winter and put the Pepsi insert on spring and summer. I have all three inserts and it gives the watch 3 different looks for the price of one watch.
In fact, I sold my Sub as I never wore it when I got my 16710. Haven't looked back. |

I have both
GMT II is sweeter, especially with a pepsi or coke bezel If you want a 16610 for me the LV is the way to go

I'd choose the GMT. But check on the condition and choose the best.
GMT because gives you a lot of options, coke, pepsi, black insert, oyster or jubilee bracelet.

I own a 16610 and the deepest I have taken it down was about 6ft for a few seconds when I dived into the ocean off a rock. The GMT can go down to 100 ft and I bet 99% of us have never gone down to even 25ft. The main advantage of the 16610 is that the bezel acts as a timer for occassions when you are in a car park etc. However you got to be pretty dumb if you cannot add an hour or 30 minutes s to when you started an activity. I suppose the simple truth it just comes down to appearance, go for the one that appeals the most. Regards Mick |

I have a 16710 and it is my go to watch these days. I also have a collection of inserts to give it variety. You can't go wrong with either, but the GMT Master II is a notch above the Sub-Date in my opinion.
Good luck and enjoy!

Well, if it is up to me, the GMT II is not longer in production and will be more collectable. Subs are everywhere and are still in production. If I find a good condition GMTII, especially PEPSI, I will snap it up if the price is right

Go with the GMT IMO. You can get all the inserts and basically make it 3 different watches.

the 16710 is special -- to me it is the more interesting watch. i would buy a 6 digit sub before a 5. but i would buy a 5 digit gmt ii before a six.

Here again, two completely different watches for two completely opposite purposes - they're not even close..
It should never be a contest between these two. It should be a decision on which one meets your lifestyle and needs.

My suggestion is first one, then the other! ;-)
That is what I did. About 7-8 years apart. There is no bad choice. 16710 is thinner and has that splash of red on the dial. More bezel options as well, but you can't go switching those everyday. More like one a year activity to me. Colored bezels are a "little" more flashy/noticeable. 16610 is as classic as you can get. Nice big crown, slight thicker and sits higher.

GMT-Master 16710 or Sub 16610
Good advice from Eric and Mik
The official inserts can't be picked up easily. Some RSCs will sell you one for ~ $80-100 USD, some won't. Some collectors happen to have them and will sell. Same for indie dealers. Beware, there are a ton of fakes out there. |
