Which Gold Rolex Watch Should I buy?

Hi TRFers,

So today i have a huge dilemma i've saved up around 16k~ and i want to buy my first all gold rolex, i don't need to spend it all but its a lot harder to find something much cheaper than that in all gold.

I want opinions of which one i should get as i don't want to make a mistake and spend so much money without knowing all my options. If you guys can please include reference numbers and Letters to represent production years. As i need to get really specific when looking for it. I would really appreciate it.

And i know you guys sometime dream, like i do and mention for me to get a DD40 or DDII well thats not 16k~ so please don't even mention it if its not feasible as i am buying this watch within the next couple of weeks and really need to start choosing from realistic options.

Wants: Rolex, Yellow Gold, Gold Bracelet, 1990s and up, Also want something thats the best bang for my buck.

What i've looked into:
YG Day Date 118238
YG Day Day 18238
YG Daytona 16528
YG Sub Date 16618

I know this is a hard question but if someone gave you 16k today and told you the same "wants" which watch would you choose and why? Please be specific.

Anyways, my recommendation would be a Day-Date 118238 from 2000 and up as I believe that reference number has the majority of features that the current one does. If you can find one for $16K then go for it.

I have always believed the Day-Date is the quintessential Rolex and if you are going to get one gold watch, then why not get a Day-Date. Just my two cents.

I would suggest the 16628 Yachtmaster as it's in your price range. I chose this one because you don't see as many as other models around, and it is a very comfortable watch to wear...thinner than the subs as well as usually a couple thousand dollars less. I have the white dial which is easy to read and is a great combination with gold.

I weight on a newer DD with solid links and end pieces make the newer watches more desirable, in my opinion.

What Eric said. Also keep in mind a 6 digit reference will be prone to less problems when it comes to servicing since its newer.

Your signature says you're looking for a 118238, so why don't you get that?

Well that is my first choice but i'm afraid of the 36mm. I dont want to wake up one day and hate that its so small. Im going to bobs watches and they have hundreds of rolexes on hand so i want to bring a list with me and try them on. This is why i'm asking. I want to make a top 3 list through peoples experiences and thoughts.

That makes sense, a 36mm definitely has to be tried on. In my experience they wear slightly larger than their size suggests though so you may be happy with it. As for the other, I can't speak to those. Good luck!

36mm isn't small IMO

In comparison with some of the 50mm hockey pucks that have been released in the last year or two yes.

I think we will be seeing a slimming down on case diameters in the next couple years.

But don't worry about what anyone says, just buy what you like

😂😂😂😂😂😂 remember size is relative to the size of your wrist. 😁

You have to decide if you want a gold Rolex that stands out above your shirtsleeve or one that partially peeks through the sleeve

Which DD then? 118238 = 16k or 18238 = 10-11k

So no one likes the Daytona i guess.

I'd suggest the Sub, with a black dial. Yellow gold and black makes it formal and sport at the same time in my mind. You'll wear it forever.

I have had many Rolex watches. I just recently got a WG Daytona and absolutely love it!! My all-time favorite by a mile. I would go to an AD and try on some of the various gold models to see how they feel and fit on you. Newer models may have different bracelets, clasps, etc but you can at least judge size and weight. The weight is definitely noticeable if you go all gold- but it's perfect for me on the Daytona. Just heavy enough to feel solid and definitely not too heavy. After a week or so you don't really notice the weight- unless you go back to a lighter watch. Seems like you want YG but there are some really good deals out there on two tone's so might want to check them out.My best advice- take your time. You will know when it's "the one". Good luck!
