Mercedes ML63 AMG

So gone back and forth last couple months on our next purchase. Now this beautiful beast has reared its ugly head. Has the add on performance package taking it to 550 HP and I'll admit it's giving the X5M a run for its money in my books.

Biggest problem with the X5 is that I'm not sure I'm a fan of the redesign.

Current X5 is a '12. Like it better but ZERO chance of buying it out at lease end and having an un-warrantied one.

Do you need a big back seat or trunk space?

If not, I would look at the Macan turbo also.

Don't get me wrong....HUGE BMW fan. Have driven nothing else for 10 years.
Just not sold on the redesign.
This will be the family mover - 8 month old and 4 year old so we need the space....car seats, strollers, trips etc. Porsche is out on that basis.
Performance - hands down you CANNOT beat the BMW...but if you don't like what you`re lookin`at..........

Not a fan of any of the bling/lifestyle Merc SUV's....the only Merc "SUV" that matters or gets respect is the G-Wagen.

Mercedes ML63 AMG

I am a Mercedes guy and really do not care for the "SUV" but this Mercedes ML63 AMG is awesome machine.

Test drive both and then see what you think.

Despite being designed with serious off road capabilities in mind, the G-Wagen is, ironically, the epitome of bling. It's the preferred vehicle of rappers, NBA players and 40 y/o women in Beverly Hills who spend their days driving back and forth between the plastic surgeon and the Hermes store.

Oh dear. There's no accounting for the poor behaviour of those Beverly Hills folks it seems

Despite that though, it's still the only good ol' propper "G" car that Merc make. Even the idiots you mention can't take that away from it where as the GLC/E/S and whatever other new one's they deem to foist upon us lately (have you seen how hideous the GLE COUPE is?!?) don't need the idiot owners to make them seem terrible, they just are

Having driven both, the X5M is miles ahead in performance and versatility. The ML is super nice but a big step below as far as driving and capabilities

These are popular in the NE where I live. I kid you not when I say that everyone that has one says the same thing, or they sell it at 6 years/100k mi when the extended warranty is up for a new one or an Audi X7 or whatever it is called.
Same story over and over. I don't have one though, so I can't confirm.

Go for the MB, it won't let you down, a beast of a truck, sounds way better than the BMW, not as nimble as the Bimmer if that is what interest you. I am a MB fan as you probably have gathered by now, but I mean no disrespect for BMW as I owned them in the past. Have fun shopping

I agree. The old model X5 and X6 seem more aggressive.

I agree, I drove one about two weeks ago at an AMG event. This thing looked nuts and drove even nuttier. A true beast

I don't know how anyone can like the GLE Coupe. They took the X6 and somehow made it even uglier.

This review is spot on.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/cars/mercedes/gle-coupe/

"My goodness, this is an ugly car. Normally we say, “Ah yes, but it looks better in the metal,” but not in this instance we don’t. If BMW’s X6 previously held the award for biggest monstrosity in production car design, the Mercedes GLE Coupé has now comfortably lifted that title."

"The GLE Coupé is God’s way of saying you’ve got too much money and not enough taste. As so often in the motor industry, the customer is not always right."

I clearly disagree. The GLE63, X6, and Macan are the nicest vehicles money can buy with high ground clearance

+1.

This thing makes the X6 look good even though it's also ugly

The outgoing models did have a more aggressive appearance to them but I will gladly overlook the more refined looks of the new model forth performance improvements they've made

I'm a BMW fan,but at approx $185k for an SUV,I'd rather get a barely used Porsche Cayenne and a barely used 911 Turbo.
OK,I miss my 911 turbo!
Sadly,I no longer have either!

I thougt the same thing until I saw it in person. It doesn't photograph well. But in person, it took my breath away. Go see one in person and you might change your mind.
