Value of Rolex Explorer II w/refinished or aftermarket dial

I own a 1972 Rolex 1655 Explorer II. It was my fathers, and during his ownership, he had the dial refinished.

Other than the dial, the orange hand on the 24 hour hand is no longer on the watch. It is simply the black/gray frame. However, the 24 hour hand is fully functional.

Other than the dial and the orange 24 hour hand issue, the watch is 100% functional and a legit Rolex.

Questions...

1. How does a refinished dial affect the overall value of the watch.

2. How does an after-market dial affect the overall value of the watch

3. How does the lack of the orange hand on the 24 hour hand afffect the value of the watch.

I'm not really looking to sell the watch, but I'm curious of such things.

Any information is appreciated.

The dial and hands are what makes a vintage watch "vintage"; this is where the premium of vintage lies.
If any of these are touched, replaced, refinished, altered, etc., it greatly diminishes the value.

The value is in the dial itself, then case.

With the dial itself being refinished it's lost half its value I would say

You prob find a respectable dial for $2-4k. Hands are $500-1500. If you keep at it, you could put it back together. Why did the dial get refinished? Water leaker?

Worth the hunt imo. Not unreasonable to find dial and hand combo for 3, 4 K. Can't ell from scan but possibly a re lume would take care of hands if you don't mind.
