Another day, another 5513 question
Here we go again.
This one is from Vintage Concept in HK (are these guys better than NBT?, can't tell...). Asking for 9.1k USD after negotiation. What's the verdict on this? I'll go first: Dial is MK2 for sure. Bezel looks original but pearl is damaged (can be replaced I guess) + has a strange mark on 30 (what is that?). Lugs look ok, can't really tell about crown (as always). Obviously polished. Bracelet and end link nos are ok, serial no corresponds to time frame (79). Over to you fine people... |

The insert looks ok, but it actually looks like the insert is cracked at the triangle. Not just damage to the pearl so something to consider. It's won't be so cheap to replace but is an option. Lugs don't look bad at all but the guards are certainly over polished and not uniform by any means. Hands look to have been replaced at some point but I like the condition of the dial and patina. Can always try and source some better matching hands or leave as is if it doesn't bother you.Looks to be some sort of paint drip over the 30, can't tell for sure with these pics. Its a fair example but at that price, I would continue the search, as frustrating as it can be, you wanna get the best bang for your buck.

At 9k, this specimen is a fair bet even with the minor issues. Hands to match could run upwards of 1k, so keep that in mind.

Thanks....the lot of you are geniuses for spotting such minor imperfections I usually don't even notice. Must be all those years of collective watch hunting (I'm just 2 months into this).
The thought did occur to me that the hands were replacement, but I wasn't completely sure (many listings, including the like of hqmilton, usually state something to the tune of "the hands have aged to a colour more/less than the dial" so I'm never sure if that means the hands are original or not?) I think you are right about the cracked bezel. I had completely overlooked that! For that reason alone, this is a turn off. The price is better than what I've been quoted recently, but I think I will continue the search elsewhere... |

Yes, bezel is snapped at the triangle and sourcing a bezel insert may take time. Must be better ones out there to consider.
