Another Sub C cyclops thread

Fair warning, this is another dreaded cyclops issue thread. Please just hit the back button if you do not want to see/read another one of these.

I always knew the date mag on my Sub C was a little off, it never really bothered me until I added a DJ with proper mag to the rotation. After reading about Emerald4194's experience with RSC, I decided to give it a go and put my warranty to work.

The watch was dropped off at RSC NYC on the 10th and I was told that a watchmaker would inspect and determine if the mag was within spec. Three days later, they confirmed that HQ has authorized a crystal swap. I was expecting a 3-4 week turn around time, but to my surprise, my watch was ready in a little over a week!

Low mag is not the new norm for Rolex, and they are very willing to perform the swap if you are not happy. After all, you spent thousands of dollars on it, it should be perfect. Cheers and happy Friday!

Congrats! Looks great. I'm curious if you found the readability of the small mag better? My experience was the small mag better collected light to illuminate the full date... But I like the look of the large mag more.

That looks great!!
Glad Rolex RSC is willing to make the correction.
Interestingly, mag on vintage Rolexes looks even greater.

You know the low mag rolex will be collectible eventually. I just have a feeling.

I have good vision, so the small mag wasn't a huge issue, but in terms of readability, the normal/larger mag is better IMHO.

Yes! My father's vintage Precision has a slightly larger date mag - I suspect it's the acrylic vs sapphire crystal

That would be pretty funny, it would rarer than the Comex sub!

I have a question for you please

Is the crystal replaced for a crystal with the laser engraved rolex at 6 oclock or for a service crystal? Sorry i might be talking complete nonsense but i read somewhere about service crystals being different.

Can some one confirm

Cheers

Top man

I wonder what the reason is for this

I thought it would be just an S rather than a crown with an S in it.

Reason I was asking is because i am picking up a new watch today and i am wary to the fact that the cyclops potentially might be crap so i was thinking of still buying and just send in for replacement.

I guess an S i the crown isn't that bad. S for Sal the king? Lol

I forget how small that LEC is! I had to bust out the trusty diamond loop to get a closer look.

Happy to report back: There is no S in the LEC, I read that they no longer use "S" crystals.

nice job

still cant understand why they would edit their website to no longer state that it magnifies by 2.5x, but still repair low mag models, seems contradictory

Looks good. But I, under no circumstances, plan on switching mine. My low mag looks fantastic.

As long as you're happy! Maybe Rolex came out with two different magnifications to please more people. We'll never know.
