Cosmograph Daytona 116528

The amount of time spent on this Forum has increased as I anxiously await the arrival of my 116618 LB. There was a thread that caught my eye from about a couple weeks ago where a member posted a thread about the RG Daytona vs. the YG Daytona. The RG Daytona has always been the one for me if I were ever to pick one up in precious metals. The Daytona in RG is absolutely stunning, particularly when paired with the pink dial with black sub dial combination.

However, this specific thread sparked an interest in the YG Daytona for me and upon doing some research, a new found appreciation is now had for this reference. If I were ever to pick up a precious metal Daytona, some serious consideration on my part would need to be put towards this model. The two following dial combinations work the best for this reference in my opinion :

1. Black dial with champagne sub dials, or
2. Champagne dial with black sub dials

Theses dials just bring the watch to life and provide great legibility (some Daytona dials do not) and really complete the watch. Also, the red second hand and outer indices are a fantastic finish.

So, in typical TRF fashion, I would like to hear what members, specifically the ones who own or have owned this reference have to say about these two dial, or any other dial combination for the 116528.

The attached pictures are from the internet. Thanks in advance for reading and participating.

Great watch and one I have had several times. The black dial on this one for me wins. I actually had the lighter dial once years ago and much prefer the black. I did try on RG with pink dial on strap and have to say that light dial combo was killer. That one also looks great with black dial as well of course. They are all nice and offer great options for different tastes.

Black dial provides some serious contrast. Really can't go wrong with either!

Thanks, Ken.

The black appears better to me too. However, something about the champagne dial just really pops. Can't really put my finger on it. Really gotta see both of them in person and ideally side by side for a proper comparison.

Agree with Ken, prefer the black dial on this, and on the RG I too like the black dial and also the pink dial and might try and source the pink dial for my one. Hope "someone round here" picks one up soon so I can see more pics of it. PS not talking to you Eric, you just get that Subc!

From just a look at the pics, the black dial certainly is more striking to my eye. As always need to see it on the wrist and in a mirror first. Great looking Daytonas! 👌

The black dial wins for me as well. Funny, I was going to mention that you needed a Daytona to round off your collection of yg beauties!

Don't worry, Neil. Nothing is going to get in my way on getting the YG Sub. The only thing in the way is time. However, after the Sub arrives and is paid for, then that is a different story.

Good luck on the pink dial. I found a picture on this site from another member who posted it a few years back. Absolutely stunning. My favourite, even over the black and chocolate dial.

I had the pink dial RG and actually traded it for the black dial YG.
Both are gorgeous but at the time I felt the RG looked a little too "coppery"
especially against my skin tone. No regrets.

Sold them as at the time only wore my vintage Paul Newman's and other vintage ones. I have toyed with buying one back so who knows.

This may seem counterintuitive, but the red seems to "pop" more with the champagne dial. This is just based on the pics, though.

Didn't own any but i was just looking at it yesterday at an AD. On pictures i feel both look great but when seeing it in actual the champagne dial seems 'lost' cos of the full yellow gold bracelet. The black dial is just so sparkling as compared to the champagne one.

Thanks Alex.

The thought has crossed my mind at least a couple of times about adding a PM Daytona in the future, but now it will be a decision between the YG and RG models. It just boils down to which dial combo for the YG model. Once that decision is made, I will need to compare that choice to the RG Daytona with pink dial. Now that will be a hard choice.

I´m not a fan of white dials at all, but the YG Daytona with white dial is my favorite.

Still I prefer the bezel design and lugs of the WG/RG case.
