New 116610LN owner please help

Hello all, after long years of popping on and off this site, I can finally say that I am a proud owner of a new Submariner. I received my package today and went to the AD with the package to add a link back in since it was a little tight. They proceeded to help me take off all the plastic in the various crevices and sides of the watch. All went well except when I got home, and I was looking through the booklets and warranty card, I noticed that the instruction booklet I received is for a deep sea/ sea dweller! I called my AD back and she stated that it must have been a mistake in the packaging. Everything else checks out- serial numbers on the watch, the card and the hang tags, its just the booklet that is wrong. Should this be something I need to be suspicious of? I specifically asked that a brand new ( non- display ) piece be shipped to me. They stated that it was not a problem but that they would have to get that stock elsewhere. Can anyone possibly post a pic of all the booklets they recieved? I am in NYC so hopefully a fellow owner that purchased here in the US can chime in. Thanks for your time and sorry this is a long read first post.

Welcome.

Rolex ships boxes separately from the watch. It's a la carter when they put it all together. The AD simply grabbed the wrong book. Happens a lot.

Also, admitting to tax fraud on a public forum isn't advisable. Might want to scratch that out of your post

Especially when it comes to New York City. They will take your firstborn for not paying taxes.

Sorry if I missed something, but how is tax fraud being committed if the watch is inside the box when its shipped? I was under the impression that tax fraud could be committed if the watch was worn out of the store, but the box was shipped out of state. Why would Stealthmode go back to the AD to have the band sized if he was already in possession of the watch.. Just my 2c, and a part of the puzzle may have been changed, so I may be out of line. Apologizes in advance if this is the case..

You are supposed to pay taxes in your own state if you purchased the watch out of state
Everyone should know this. Tax Evasion = Illegal!!
Simple

That depends on your state sales tax code. Connecticut has a user tax on purchases made outside the state as many other states. Unless you buy a motor vehicle out of state and try to register in your state or state gov is tracking your CC purchases it is an honor system. It is up to you to report it. If you buy something and have it shipped it is unenforceable, unless there is a store or outlet in your state then you will pay sales tax.

Correct, I was not in possession of the watch. I tried on a model in store and the AD estimated the amount of links to remove. When I received the actual piece it had x amount links removed, however it was too tight even with the built in adjustment, hence my return to the AD to get it resized. Thanks for all the input I really appreciate it. With regards to shipping out of state, I was not aware of this practice...it was suggested by...wait for it...the AD themselves. At any rate, I am a law abiding citizen and will handle this matter as needed with my accountant. Certainly not intentional but now that I think about it, there is merit in what was pointed out.

With regards to the booklets, I researched a little more and found that it is indeed a "normal" mix up due to human error. I contacted my AD and they apologized and will give me the appropriate booklet. I thank you all for the reassurance. I can now move forward and "wear it in good health" as you all so fondly say. These were the parting words from my AD as well.

Because nobody on the forum has ever done this before? It's not like shipping out of state to avoid taxes is some big secret.

Have the AD swap out books and you'll be good. Nothing major.

On that note I guess "smart folks" shouldn't want to be quoted making statements like this either but I digress..

Now I didn't join this forum to make enemies, it was of course quite the opposite. Forgive my initial naivete...and sorry for all the ruckus about that issue. I would've assumed that a topic like that has already been hashed out.

Well....Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Get off the forums and lets all be thankful for our families and loved ones...and of course these amazing timepieces we have been blessed to own and enjoy. Cheers

I stand by what I said. You can't evade paying your taxes and mention it in public and expect people to praise you for it. I bought a new Rolex from my dealer just 2 weeks ago. I paid my taxes.

I'd be very suspicious....

I'd suspect dealers are notorious for giving you a what LOOKS like a submariner, but really its a sea dweller.
Since the sea dwellers don't sell as well as the submariners, they change the dial, bezel, modify the case so it looks like the more desireable submariner.

Looks like they slipped up....they changed everything to make it look like a submariner but FORGOT to change out the booklet.

OR!
they gave you a submariner with the wrong book.

50/50 on this one....

Congrats on the watch. Don't worry about the booklet and I am very glad you've reported the purchase in NY and paid taxes on it! Right? Ok. End of the tax story please!!

Congratulations on the sub.

Don't worry about the book. It's a simple mistake. Books don't really matter. It's not like the watch you bought is some rare model that might be worth a ton some day. As long as the serial number warranty information is correct, that's all that really matters.

Don't worry about the tax stuff either. Every AD I've ever walked into has offered to ship the watch out of state to "save the tax" . They all say it and they all do it. Including the Rolex boutique in NYC. Yes, you are legally responsible for paying tax in your state for out of state purchases but I really doubt that every member here has done that.

No worries. My AD keeps all the warranty booklets for all the watches they have in the store in a small box the size of a shoe box. Watches are kept separate while the books are simply stored under the counter. They also have a pile of generic Rolex boxes in the back. When you buy a watch from them they grab the warranty cards, books, box and watch and then assemble them as a package. They probably just grabbed the wrong book to put in the box.

Congrats and I hope you enjoyed your thanksgiving wearing your Rolex, while others NOT as fortunate ate at the soup kitchen because you get this "DIDN'T PAY YOUR TAXES ON YOUR WATCH." Sorry its just too funny where this thread went, from you not getting your correct booklets in your watch box. Really I hope everyone just enjoys their day with their families and give thanks.
