Platinum in everyday life?

I've read all the recent posts (unless I missed a few) on the PM Rolex's - Platinum vs. gold vs. SS etc. on how it wears / hardness etc. The discussions tend to get down to metallurgy and are interesting but can any platinum owners share real life experience on wear over time / scratching / dulling of PCL's etc? I'm thinking of going platinum and I'm worried in real life how it will hold up.

If I go this route, due to cost, I'm going to have to pare down my collection. All of my watches are worn, no safe queens, and obviously if I do this it will be worn quite a bit as my rotation will shrink. Anyone had one serviced? Did it polish up at service time like the other metals and come back looking new?

Thanks for the insight - pictures wouldn't hurt.......

I have several watches

I am at the point where my platinum Daytona is my daily wearer

I do everything with it and it really is indestructible!! It is my favorite watch and metal BY FAR!!

This watch has been through hell and back including a car crash at over 160mph...still looks great after three years...

This pic is from a few days ago....

The worst part of having platinum on your wrist is the stupid smile it puts on your face. I got to try on Dr. Tom's at Road Atlanta in April and I'm still smiling!!

So I happened to show my wife this thread and she said (upon seeing Dr. Tom's Playtona) "I like that watch. It's not garishly green or over the top. Very classic looking." First thought...do not show her the Hulk I have coming this week (finally). Second thought...how do I go about selling a kidney (or other body part) to afford getting a Playtona that she seems to like. My only mistake was telling her how much those beauties are!

Easy to wear pt daily

For me the only watch out is starch in shirt cuffs: the starch crystals create hundreds of tiny abrasions.

This is one of the best examples that demonstrate Rolex watches are meant to be worn. Thank you, Tom.

Works for me as a daily wearer and mine is circa 2001 form memory. No major scratches and no polishing.

Pt wears about the same as St/St in metallurgical life and the movements are much the same within similar models.
