Hi guys, after a bit of help here.
Would an 'R' serial number GMT II Coke be an 16710 or 16760.
Any help appreciated. Many thanks

R Serial would be 16760. 16710 came out in 1989, R serial dates to 1987. Check out GMT Master history for more info.

R serials go up to 1989. No serial letter was restricted to a single year.

Oh, I see - so there wasn't a specific cut off point for Rolex serials. Did they ever produce watches with different serial letters at the same time?

Yes, most noticeably late 1980s and early 1990s from what I can tell.

When Rolex went to prefix letters they almost always had 2 or three (or more) letter prefixes in production at the same time..

Each prefix lasted 3 or more years with precious metal prefixes in the Que for even longer.

To the question: All 16760's had the red/black bezel and no other colors were offered. The 16710 came out with all three insert colors available so it doesn't matter what the serial number is.

Yep, R's went into 1989 which was the year of the first 16710 as far as I know. Is the R followed by a high number, like 8 or 9?
