I never understood why someone would bid $5 let alone $3050 for an item where the seller cannot even post one picture that is in focus.

I just hope it a scammer scamming the scammer.

Unfortunately for the buyer he or she may not have a legal recourse for getting their money back. Nowhere in the ad does the seller state it is a real Rolex. He simply states "watch says Rolex Perpetual" and is very clear at indicating he knows very little about it "it was my grandfathers watch" and "I don't wear watches", etc. Not sure if PayPal or Ebay would back the buyer when they realize they overpaid.

On a side note, when I moved from the Pensacola area in Florida to Germany in 2014, the moving company "lost" my box with my Rolex box, my Omega box, a couple other Citizen watch boxes, a wooden/glass display case, etc, and this same exact (replica) Yachtmaster was inside. The people packing my household goods knew exactly what was in the box (as far as a couple boxes for some high end watches goes) so I am 90% sure they stole the box to see if the watches were inside. When they saw this hunk of junk in an official Rolex box, I always wondered how excited they got thinking they scored off me, and how pissed they were when they tried to sell it to some unsuspecting person as genuine and got laughed at. Moulton Al isn't too far from Pensacola. I wonder if this is my watch lol

Very likely just a fake transaction to get sellers ratings up on "expensive" watches.

He will likely get his money back.....the seller doesn't necessarily have to say its a genuine Rolex. Selling a fake is illegal in and of itself. It's on EBay and Paypal to do a better job of patrolling this garbage that they allow onto their site. Yes, I know they cannot look at every item that gets posted (hundreds of millions) but they could do a better job with the high dollar items. We (several of us TRF members) patrol daily and sometimes it takes 10 or more reports to get an obvious fake taken down. If they wanna be this lacksidaisical then they must have run the numbers and feel its OK to just pay for the ones that people request a refund thru PayPal.

I'm really new to the Rolex world, but even I, a newbie, can see how horrific that fake is. People say, "buy the seller," and I'll follow that advice! :0)

eBay fakes

Even if they did not use PayPal, I'm fairly certain that the buyer can receive a refund, including shipping. If they used PP then it is certain; they even allow extended time to verify the item. I would venture to say that the transaction was for real with over 50 bids. Some years ago it would have been truly sad, but old eBay has improved vastly over even the past five years. But here's the clincher; the seller, after refunding the money, will be able to reinvent the listing, after the dust settles down and offer it for sale once again to another unsuspecting buyer. If they catch him, though, he'll have to use a new identity. A ton of sellers use awful pics claiming that they have no skills in photo-taking and that may be true. But how many of them are hiding something?
