Curious what recourse there is for the poor fool that buys this piece? Is it "buyer beware" and all sales final- no returns, no exchanges?
I assume the seller quickly disappears after the sale, but is there a way that he can be tracked and held accountable? If he's clearly not a professional watch seller will his plea of ignorance after the fact be enough to avoid prosecution? Obviously best to avoid altogether by doing proper diligence, but the fact that so many of these scams persist suggests that they are at least somewhat successful in duping trusting and uninformed buyers. I suspect the majority of which have never heard of TRF. |

Wonder how many people are rocking junk bought by these conmen thinking they've got a Rolex on! And wonder how long they wear it for until they go in to a watch shop to find out they've been had

The main problem with these high value transactions on CL that involve items where authenticity can be an issue, is that there is a very high likelihood that one or both of the participants will be armed. The reasons are obvious and numerous and why would anyone chose to seek a transaction that might involve having a 9mm stuck in your ear before its concluded. It's beyond me, but PT Barnum was obviously correct and insightful.

This guy is cleverer than he appears. Someone has opened the case and removed the hour marker that fell off the dial. The second hand is also gone, possibly due to a collision with the same hour marker.
Most people would just throw it in the trash, but this scumbag is putting some real effort into scamming someone with this junker. |
