The Dark Knight... can it beat Spiderman box office?

Who out there plans to see this?

The buzz is through the roof!

Too much hype can be a curse, but I think that they've been reasonably restrained this time...

It looks good. Heath Ledger's Joker is downright terrifying...the way he is meant to be in the comics.

I still hate the bat-suit, but I can live with it....

the only way this may suffer at the box office...losing the young child's take.

I would not let my pre-teen see this one!

I am a total Batman freak, so I will definitely be seeing it. Love these new darker films.

I'll be seeing it, but to be honest - the buzz in the US isn't really that crazy yet.

Speaking of summer blockbusters... they were shooting a scene from Transformers 2 (summer 2009) down the road at Udvar Hazy a few weeks back. Apparently, the SR-71 is a character...

Yes the new Batman franchise is turning a joke into something worth watching again. (ie. Bale's Batman vs. Clooney's Batman) From the trailers it appears to be spot on again, I really like the darker take on the franchise, but also agree with R.J, it might be too full on for the kids.

And anyways this thing has been promoted for so long that it seems a no brainer!! IMHO, I for one want to find out what new toys batman has in this one eg. cars, watches, lifestyle lol....

I think this could possibly turn into one of the greatest sequels of all time. Word of mouth is comparing to Empire Strikes Back and Godfather II on the sequel tip.

Nolan is a great film maker and his cast, writing team, source material and adult themes (911 and terror allusions, world on brink of bankruptcy both morally and financially and the psychosis and fine line between they whom perpetrate violence and those whom embrace violence as a countermeasure) suggest this may be a whole lot more intelligent and deeper than your usual summer movie fare.

Alas....two and a half hours of bleak, intellectual movie polish may be lost on those wanting a cape and cowl smackdown and therefore I think negative word of mouth (from the Spiderman crowd) following the movie's opening will result in the take being lower than your Spideys or Transformers (look at Batman Returns, one of the quirkiest and easily most beautiful blockbuster movies of all time was trounced at the B.O by lesser flicks).

I hope I'm wrong, I truly do. I want this to be awesome.

I won't be seeing it, as I haven't seen any of them, but I must say, with how scary Heath Ledger looks in it, it looks promising!
I didn't know that the Joker was supposed to be mean. In this film, he looks like he needs a good shower, and maybe some time in rehab!

I must admit that I thought that Heath was playing the character that Jack Nicholson played forever ago. He was the Penguin though, wasn't he? That's quite different. It'd be pretty cool if they brought back Jim Carrey to play the.. Riddler. That's it. Too many characters to remember!

Personally looking forward to this film quite a bit. I am, and have been an avid Bat-Fan since childhood, and was saddened to see what had become of the film franchise over the years.

With that said, Christopher Nolan and company did a terrific job reinvigorating the Bat films. Nolan in general has always been a good director with a keen eye to detail and finesse, and certainly more intellectual. This should be a great film, Bat fan or not.

I do not think that it will top the Spidey opening weekends. The Spider films had a much broader appeal to a larger market, as well as being more child friendly.

While it may not beat Spiderman at the box office, from what I've seen in the short clips released, DK will go down as a classic.

I knew that he was the Terminator (not that I've ever seen it), but I guess I shouldn't show surprise at anything that happens in Bat Man movies. I don't know a thing about any of them!

I was fortunate enough to be invited to the preview in Sydney last night (Monday). Opens nationally in Australia on Wednesday.

Getting in and out of the cinema was a pain. There was no prewarning that they would confisticate all mobile phones at the door - even ones without cameras. Everyone was scanned with handheld metal detectors before entering the cinema. After the movie, there were chaos everywhere as everyone tried to retrieve their phones.

Interestingly, security did not ask everyone to surrender their cameras.

Overall a good movie, so the hassles were worth it. I enjoyed the movie. Heath Ledger is very good as the Joker, so it's not just all hype.

Highly recommended.
