Rolex Explorer II owners... opinions needed

Looking into getting the rolex explorer ii white 40mm

For owners of the Rolex Explorer II, whats your opinion on it? Want to have the watch for the next 20 years and I am starting a career in law. Thanks!

Looking to pay 4k for a used one? Good Idea?

About the right price if you can find one at that price; I'd suspect a bit higher. You might be able to find one at 4K if you are willing to look around. They're a great watch.

My favorite that I own... white dial is amazing and crisp. The size is perfect... i have one of the last of the generation at 40 mm with the engraved rehaut. It can be a everyday workhorse for sure.

Long time Rolex wearer and just recently bought a 2001 16570 polar from David SW right at 4K in excellent condition with box and papers. Fits in great with my collection as I did not have anything with a white dial. Wish I would have found this model sooner as I really like it. Great for daily wear and really goes with most apparel and activities. Very comfortable watch with a fairly thin case and case back. Sits nice on the wrist. I spent about 2 months looking everyday until the right one came along. I checked here in the classifieds and several websites/dealers I like daily.
Good luck!

Definitely. I think it's the perfect balance of sporty and dressy.
It's versatile, comfortable, and a surefire win in either black or white.
Enjoy!

explorer II 40mm is one of the best hidden gem of Rolex.

Its tough, low profile and comfortable on the wrist, it can be sporty and dressy.

if you care, get the one with 3186 movement, they have the updated blue paramagnetic “Parachrom” hairspring. :)

Looks like overwhelming support for the model. I fell in love with the polar EXP II when it was revealed at Basel a few years back. It was my first Rolex. It's beautiful, legible, versatile, and the white face really pops when compared to other black face watches. It's my daily wear and it stands up to some serious punishment. The adjustment in the clasp is used a couple times a day for comfort. Very happy with the purchase.

I actually purchased a polar 16570 last week and I love it. I've been wearing it everyday since I got it.

You can find a great example with that budget too. I ended up getting a M serial, complete set for 4.5k.

Great watch. Light, comfy, not "noticeable". Be sure that you are okay with bezel insert scratches though - that finely brushed insert picks up marks easily.

Great watch. Under-rated reference.

The only drawback to some (which to others is a positive) is that it is not immediately recognizable as a Rolex.

I went for the black face.

How recent was this? His always seem listed at like $4500-5200 the last several months I've been looking for one.

The white dial 16570 is my daily wearer and to me it’s the perfect sports Rolex: comfortable thanks to a thinner case than a Sub, and not as instantly recognizable as a Rolex due to the absence of a rotating bezel. With this watch, I have no real desire to own any other Rolex other than perhaps one day a 114270. So go for it!

It was just within the last couple weeks. I got lucky I saw he listed it on his website and emailed him minutes later. Deal was done super quick. I really wanted an older tritium dial but was having some difficulty finding a good example. This works as it has lug holes but with SEL bracelet so pretty happy.

I've had my 16550 for 30 years. Best watch Rolex makes in my humble opinion.

Wow, GREAT patina on that one.

I have a 1 year old 216570, the 42mm model and I love it. Compliments my Sub-C well.

Polar white was my first Rolex: and, despite multiple additions it is still my go to sport watch. Have always been a sucker for the red twenty four hour marker on the stark white face. Perfection to me.

I would recommend this watch as well. It's very comfortable and looks great with all attire. Get one from Davidsw and you won't be sorry.
