Rolex dealer

Planning to go check out some watches at a local dealer never asked to try any on wondering if that is allowed at most dealers even if you aren't buying.

Yes. Of course.

Go try them on. You never know...you might even buy something.

I've been wearing Rolexes for many years and have stopped into a number of ADs. It has been my experience they all were eager to let me try on any model I wanted. But....I have to wonder if that eagerness was because they noted I was already wearing one?

that's an interesting point as some jewelry stores will 'size you up' upon entering the premises. one's appearance can oftentimes make a difference in the manner they initially respond to your presence.

walking in wearing an expensive and recognizable timepiece will usually yield a more congenial response...but they have to be able to see it on you first.

walking in wearing a dirty hoodie, knit cap, & torn jeans will probably yield a less than cordial response especially if one is suspicious-looking and/or a person of color.

it all depends on the store, their security protocols & target clientele.

i have had this when buying my first AP, was browsing in France, i do not dress smartly, was my first watch so was not wearing one, they were reluctant to let me try on and the woman nodded at the security guard before she got the pieces out

now i have some watches the stores are keen to let me try on pieces

lol, she nodded at the security guard when you were trying something on?! Oh my gosh. That's funny.

In all fairness to the sales people, when an unknown person, questionably attired, comes in to the store and asks to sample various pieces of jewelry worth thousands of dollars, it's only natural they have their guard up. Have we forgotten the smash and grab incidents that occur in shops all around the world? Just a few months ago, at Tourneau Corner there was a violent incident. We can only project how we 'think' we might act if the positions were reversed, but really, it's not that easy.

Think that helps. I noticed some slight change in behavior of the sales person once they notice what watch your wearing. Unless you walk into a AD where you come more often and the sales people already know you (where you have bought before).

I've noticed the same thing. They've even said "looking for another Rolex?" I think what one walks in wearing is a good estimate on what they are willing to spend on a piece.

Make sure to make a point NOT to dress well. I like to show up and see if an AD can pass the Pretty Woman test....

Yeah I do the same. I'll dress like a total scrub. It makes it all the more fun when you walk in and can feel them judging you.... then they notice the YG DD40 on your wrist and you can feel their attitude change.

Sorry, my first post probably didn't contribute anything positive. Yeah Mordeeb, most dealers will let you try on whatever you want. Usually they want you to try things on, even if you don't plan on buying. And I was just kidding (kind of) with what I said. Most of the salespeople I've ever experienced at AD's weren't judgement at all. Most of them have all been very professional.

Get out there, go visit some AD's and start getting some watches on your wrist to see what SINGS to you! Best of luck with your purchase and post some pics when you get something. Buying your first Rolex is a great experience (and an addictive one).

1. Try them on

2. Ask questions

3. Come back to TRF and confirm answers to your questions

For point 3, do NOT do what too many do and start a thread saying "CONFIRMED: *add ridiculous unsubstantiated rumor here*"...

Went today have to say the dealer was incredibly nice and let me try everything on that I wanted, they weren't pushy on a sale at all either. It was Longs in Burlington MA if anyone is looking to try on or buy something at an AD I would definitely check them out.

I really liked the new GMT master they only had it in one color which wasn't the green and black but I would wear that watch but would HAVE to remove the PCL first just too much shine for me. I think the deepsea is cool but way to thick to wear to work. interestingly enough after trying all the new watches with thicker hands and blown up dial markers it made me really appreciate the simplicity of my older explorer II.

I was at longs near the natick mall today. They had a small selection of datejusts, dd, and a few subs in various configurations. If you want to see a huge selection try the boutique at Foxwoods. They are always loaded.

Isn't it their job to stand behind a counter and have you try on jewelry?

What I like even better is for someone that has no intention of buying from an AD.....go in....sample the merchandise....lead the sales people on.....then buy from a "trusted-seller" instead.
You know who you are.....

I don't think they ever thought I was buying I told them I was just looking, the prices are high and for now i'd probably still buy form this forum instead of in store.

I've been totally ignored by some salespeople in tourneau. It was summer and I was in shorts and a button down l/s shirt. The place was empty. It was so bad that I waited an hour until someone finally said I can't loiter in the store and stated if I wasn't there to buy I should leave. They saw my Rolex and their attitude changed. I was looking at a breitling. I had them size it, ring it up and was about to hand over the Amex and said forget it. I'm no longer interested. It's not nice wasting people's time. I told them next time they should be more courteous and left. I must say their attitude has since changed and have never had another problem in there since.

This is the watch. Never did get it. I'm glad I passed because I know I'd never wear it.

In Ft Lauderdale, I've had to convince one AD to even let me in.

I was on vacation with my brother (stereotypical biker dude who loves watches) so we weren't "dressed the part". Once we were let in, we were completely ignored. My brother is not one to be treated poorly and let it go without comment. He felt better when we left.

A buddy of mine owns a ford dealer (his parents actually own it). During the sales meetings they mandate that the sales crew pay attention to the folks in sweats and dressed down attire. The owner always said those are the people that can buy and sell his dealership. The ones dressed up have something to prove and generally won't buy without multiple trips and lots of complaining.

Sounds spot-on to me.
