Another - Which one to buy for Wife/GF Thread
Okay, so Dan (Rossi46) inadvertently (not his fault) got the thought of fulfilling my wife's need for a Rolex rolling again.
Here are the boundary conditions: She is not a girly girl, but likes me to think of her as feminine (she is). She is sporty, athletic, adventuresome, and tall. She wears little jewelry, but that which she wears is high quality (spendy), but not showy. She wears no costume jewelry, and considers it fakery. She loves my Sub, having gifted it to me on the occasion of our 35th wedding anniversary, but doesn't think it looks good on her. She does not like the current style of women wearing large, ornate, men's watches, instead preferring the older-style small case ladies watch (however, her wrists are not tiny). For a non-girly girl, she doesn't find the current trend feminine enough for her tastes. Here's the tough one: She has skin sensitivity to nickel, so 904L is out for a material for the watch and bracelet. This is a non-negotiable condition, as any stainless steel on her skin results in a nasty rash. She is currently wearing a cheap-azzed titanium watch. She would not mind diamonds, but they have to be on the dial, not the bezel, and must not appear too gaudy or flashy, as she would wear it everywhere, including running with the yellow lab on the beach, gardening, golfing, etc. She wears only platinum or white gold. She is from Newport Beach, CA (grew up in the sand) and we have lived in over a dozen states, including Hawaii (8 years), and we travel extensively. Beaches are a big part of her life's wheel house. Hiking comes in within the top ten activities as well. Let's hear your thoughts - enlighten me, O Rolex WISs. Please feel free to include the rationale for your selection(s). |

How about a 34mm Pearlmaster. Has some diamonds but not over the top. Nice size without being man sized. Well the diamonds are on the bezel instead of the dial but they are essentially hour markers.

Pretty watch, good size, but the diamonds on the bezel rule it out for her. I suppose that Rolex makes it in platinum or white gold?

My wife wears a stainless white dial Daytona and it looks fantastic on her.
If a Daytona isn't too big for her, I'd suggest looking at the white gold versions. They come with cooler dials and can be had for cheaper than most yellow gold variants |

Lady Datejust... there are tons of options. Comes in white gold and platinum depending on model and size.

Curious if your wife has personally browsed a Rolex catalog and have found a favorite (or two)? If not, then perhaps send her a link so she can do so and find one she likes. Best of luck.

Good comment, but she is better in person at an AD with a large selection. When we lived in Hawaii, Ben Bridge in Waikiki had what appeared to be hundreds of Rolex's to try on. I suppose I need to find an AD in the DC area with a huge selection.

That's pretty good-looking there.
I like the sound of the Yachtmaster for her. As a US Navy Submariner (retired), I wear a Sub (14060M). Since she sailed to Hawaii in her father's 49' schooner, this would resonate with her. Guess I've got some homework to do. |

the 35mm yachtmaster gets my vote but not sure about the bracelet and case material as you said any SS is out of the question.. how about a precious metal 31mm datejust?

Pretty, but not seeing that for her. Of course, I've been wrong before - just ask her.
Yeah, I gotta figure out which ones are available in platinum of white gold only. |

I would think with the nickel allergy, the new RG YM on oyster flex would be a good call for her...as for size, let her try on a few and see if she likes the 40 or 37mm. Good luck,

I'd get it for the GF, you've already captured the wife; GFs are harder to keep happy. Oh, you wanted a straight answer? Get a DJ in gold.
