Screwdrivers and Blades

Moderator, please feel free to move this thread to the proper category.

I'm interested in acquiring a 1.6mm screwdriver with a hollow ground blade. Easy enough, right? I know they're easy to get through eBay but quality might be questionable since the manufacturer is unknown.

I found a screwdriver that I like from Bergeon (Model 5971 with a drum barrel)

http://www.esslinger.com/bergeon-597...chmakers-each/

and a hollow ground blade that I like from Horotec (LSD0202-T-160)

http://www.leosics.co.uk/spare-curva...rewdriver.html

My question is, since they're both 1.6mm but from different manufacturers, will the Horotec blade fit the Bergeon screwdriver.

Probably not, but I have not tried.

Otto Frei (ofrei.com) has both screwdrivers and replaceable bits to fit them.

Thanks Larry. They have the screwdriver I like but I can't find the hollow ground blade.

Angelo, they are compatible. I sent you a PM with the correct part numbers at Otto Frei.

Buy the Bergeon Screwdriver and the Horotec tips. Just remove the tip that comes with the screwdriver and replace it with the Horotec. The Bergeon tip is not hollow ground.

Thanks again Rich. If I remember right Otto Freight only carries one of those items so I'll probable need to order them separately. But at least I know that they work together.

It seems that the Bergeon blades are flat ground and need to be hollow ground if that is what you want.

Both Bergeon and Horotech make hollow grind sharpeners..

Looks like the Horotec blade will fit the Bergeon screwdriver so that solves my problem.

Ang, Otto has both. That's where I got them. The blades are hard to find on their website. If you can't find it, call them and order them over the phone. That's their invoice in the photo with both part numbers.

Rikki has a special tool that can hollow grind a chisel tip. I purchased a Bergeon 1.6mm for my Hulk to size the bracelet. Fortunately I was able to break loose the loctite on 2 pins to remove the half link and did not bugger up the slots. You have to be real careful. On a full 18K gold bracelet I would be really nervous though.

That's even better. I'll order them first thing in the morning. Much thanks Rich.

The screwdriver i can buy from a lot of places but not the special hollow ground blade. I have tools that i use to do the job but i would love to have a proper blade.

Are you referring to the Otto Frei website or some other one?
Rich Mikol got both items from Otto Frei.

Nice to know

May have to get some myself, although I have never had an issue with the Bergeon drivers as long as the loc-tite is softened first..

Yep, you're right. The 1.6mm is probably the most popular size. I'll have to keep my eye on it. If you find it anywhere else let me know.

The hollow ground 1.60mm blade is back in stock for those that wanted one. This might possibly be the only place to order them online on the whole entire internet lol.

Just in case your super finicky (like myself), the 1.8mm can be filed down slightly and actually a better/more proper fit than the 1.6mm
