3185? 3186?
I am looking at purchasing a GMT 16710 (Coke) with a F serial. Is this to early to have the 3186 movement?
Thanks in advance |

I believe F series is a little early for the 3186. I want to say the 3186 came around 2010. Experts will chime in through.

I think the 3186 starting showing up with Z serials. Having a D serial with a 3185 and a GMT2c with 3186, I don't think the current premium of a 16710 with a 3186 is worth it. I'd just find a 16710 in really good condition with a 3185 if I were u. That's what I did an couldn't be happier.

I'm absolutely not an expert but it's my understanding the 3186 made its first appearance with the M series. https://www.minus4plus6.com/paracromblu16710.php

.
3186 appeared in 2005 , with the YG Gmt2-C 116718. It was already a long time after the end of F series. Then it was pushed to the 16710 at the end of 2006 and at the end of Z series. So obviously a 16710 F serie have the 3185 Inside. |

I would not fret over a 3186 over a 3185 if I were you, not worth it IMHO.

I have a 2007 mid Z series Pepsi Stick Dial. Whilst I've never had the back off, from the 'wiggle' test, I assume it to have a 3185 inside of it.
Having said that, I also own a 2016 11610 LN Ceramic which definitely has a 3186 movement inside of it. The same 'wiggle' test produces the same results I feel as my other GMT's all of which have 3185's inside of them. Does it really matter? Not a jot! Like others have already said, 3185 or 3186 movement really doesn't make a whole lot of difference and I wouldn't pay more for one over the other in an older 16710. In fact, I reckon my Z series Pepsi is probably the rarer watch being from that serial number range fitted with a 3185! Go figure! |

No. the GMT II ceramics were introduced with the 3186 movement. They all have one.
The last production runs of the 16710 came with a 3186 because Rolex ran out of 3185 built movements. They also began putting the 3186 into Explorer IIs at that time as well.
