Rolex Oyster Perpetual 36mm

Hi All - Just wanted to get some views from the forum. I have been looking for a new daily beater and finding it difficult to look at any other brand having owned (and still own) several Rolex's.

The difficult I am having is finding a low key Rolex, ideally all brushed. I have managed to narrow this down to two; Rolex Oyster Perpetual 36mm with silver dial or Explorer 1.

My question to the forum:- Is the 36mm OP intended for ladies?

I do have thin wrists and the 36mm does fit me well but wanted to get views/experiences?

Many thanks

I've been wearing a 36mm DateJust for 15+ years. That is a men's size, though I realize they are making the larger (41mm) DateJust II these days. I also have a small wrist, and like the 36mm size. My Day Date is also 36mm.

36mm is ideal for me in an Oyster-type case.

Dive watches I wear 40mm+, but the DJ2 just looks huge to my eyes at least.

36 mm Rolex watches are the most comfortable to wear.

I have a 6.75 inch wrist and wear an 36mm OP 116000. Couldn't be happier with the size, it's perfect IMHO.

I too think a lot of the too big, too small, talk depends on the guy's wrist.. Women will mostly follow the trend of the time because they know much more about fashion then men do, so they will wear the 36mm all day every day.. For me, the 36mm is perfect...

Absolutely nothing wrong with the 36mm OP; wore mine most of the week. It's a great watch and comes in a lot of varied dials. 36mm has always been a men's watch. About time someone posted a photo of one.

36 is a perfect gentlemans size. Not too big, not too small. Just perfect

The trend is to larger watches, but a large watch on a small wrist looks strange - the 36mm Datejust is perfect for a medium to small wrist. I have a 6.75" wrist, and the 36 mm is the perfect size. I also have a GMT 11 which is 40mm - and looks a little large on me, but I still like it. I wear the 36 mm Datejust most of the time.

36mm is perfect size, I find I can even wear the 34mm nowadays without looking too small on my wrist. My wrist is 6.75".

I spent a week with this 34mm Air King and loved every minute of it. My 36mm DJ is my daily go-to watch. You can read my long term review of it on Time&Tide here:

Unfortunately, the 36mm Oyster Perpetual (116000) has been discontinued; to me it was one of the most versatile daily wearers in the Rolex line. If you can locate a late model version, I think you'll be happy. Same case as the DateJust with an all brushed oyster bracelet. The silver dial is a great choice and 36mm looks great on most men's wrists. This is one of my favorites (pic off web) Good luck.

I admire MANY different Rolex Watches and have for decades....
But what "I" think is by far the coolest watches are EXACTLY the plain ole Oyster Perpetual and the Explorer (1)......which you are considering.

So understated and discrete, simple, old-school, yet soooooo cooool!
Less is WAY more!
Even with small wrists I'd go 39mm....

I see many, more popular models in the wild
When I see someone with either of those, I know THEY know what time it is....
Cooler than ALL of the other Rolex-Bling combined....

(Full disclosure - I wear 42mm Explorer-II's)

Go for the 36mm or 39mm OP. Either one will look fantastic, the 39mm Explorer is another option.

They discontinued the 116000? I thought they just added dials

The new Oyster Perpetuals are 39mm, with less variety in dial choices.

Chaps

The male staff in my local AD all wear 36mm Explorers and they look fine.

These guys have the pick of the bunch and yet they stay with 36mm because it looks just right.

Regards

Mick

I just bought an OP 36mm to give to my g/f for Valentine's Day, and I've tried it on and it looks fine on my average wrist size. I wore a 36mm Datejust daily for 15 years and then switched over to subs, etc. but have no issue with 36 being too small. That being said, I would pobably pick an OP 39 for myself, mainly because I like the colored dots on the dial. If you're concerned about 36 being small now, it will probably bother you later, so proceed accordingly. The price difference is negligible.

For some reason I thought they released 36mmOPs in Basel in rhodium, white grape, and red grape. These were in addition to the 39mmOPs in grey, blue, and red, which are listed as 114300.

Ok, perhaps I'm wrong, which is good. Glad the model is still available.

I just picked up a used/LNIB OP 116000 with silver dial, 3-6-9 and 36mm. I think it fits my 6.75" perfectly, I couldn't be happier with this watch in any setting.

Real men wear 36mm's, except when my wife borrows them.
