A New Job & Having A Ball..............

Well, a new job, kinda. The company I've provided project management services for over 21 years has decided it was time to make an honest man out of me and brought me on as a full fledged employee. As before, I'll be working from home but it will also include a new office in Chicago. Same amount of travel [about half the month] but now focused on the mid and upper midwest.

Thought I would reward myself with a new watch [what else?]. Already owning many multi time zone watches, including the best traveler ever made, the 16710 GMT II, I decided to look around for something a little different. My requirements included: 2 [or 3] time zones, an added timer [chrono or rotating bezel], high legibility, water resistant, and overall toughness.

Introducing the Ball Engineer Hydrocarbon Aero GMT.

An amazingly easy to read dial and sapphire bezel featuring 43 micro gas tubes allowing night time reading on both.

Shock resistant to 7500Gs, water resistant to 300m/ 1000ft, and anti magnetic at 4800A/m., and a 4mm thick domed sapphire crystal w/ anti-reflective protection on both sides. Plus, the patented crown protection system keeps the logo permanently aligned for the OCD crowd.

Although it comes with an amazing solid bracelet w/ double butterfly clasp, I found it less than desirable due to some sharp edges. So I quickly installed the most comfortable strap I've ever worn, the Bonetto Cinturini rubber nato.

Since setting it yesterday this certified chronometer is running spot on. Really happy with this beauty and glad I found something off the beaten path that should make some of those redeye flights and nighttime drives more fun to endure [borrowed lume shot from the inter webs].

Double congrats!! You can move by me in Indy and be half way between!!

And that Ball is awesome. Absolute lume cannon with those tubes. I had and engineer hydrocarbon with the Arabic numerals and regret selling it all the time. Did it come with a bracelet? Their bracelets are the best on a watch of that price IMHO.

Staying in Kentucky but will be working in Indy on occasion. Nice to have a remote office in the Windy City too.
Yes, it came with the bracelet but I didn't find it very comfortable, especially compared to the Italian rubber NATO.

If you find your way up here let me know and if I am in town we can meet for a cocktail.

I grew up in Chicago and have spent 30+ years there on various occasions. Great place to work and visit but the tax situation and financial situation of illinois was enough to to get us to move.

Will do. Been to Chicago many times, my band has played there (Buddy Guy's Legends), and numerous trips to watch the Red's vs the Cubbies.

That, I've not investigated. But this certified ETA 2893 is still spot on.
