Sea Dweller 4000 vs Submariner no Date......lets talk comfort
So the time has come to pull the trigger (in the next 2 weeks) and the more I think about it...the more I can't justify both in my collection with so many other good pieces I'd like to add like the YM/OP/Daytona etc. So here it is, I've tried both the SDc (116600) and the Subc no date (114060)...I know the pros and cons aesthetically in terms of case/lug arrangement/thickness. Was wondering who has good experience with both and can give some insight to comfort. I think my BLNR wears very nice and comfortably (maybe a bit too comfortable, sometimes I don't even notice it's there). I really like the way the SD looks but would that be a far deviation in comfort compared to the GMT or Sub? Thanks in advance for any insight Rolex veterans.

I have a 16613 and a 16803 that I have worn for many years. I thought I wanted a new Sub C date. After trying it and the 116600 on at our AD, I left with the SD4K. I didn't care for the larger style Sub case. The tapered lugs on the SD appealed to me a lot more. I removed the diver extension right away. After a few weeks of wear, I can say that the SD is the most comfortable watch I have ever worn. Good luck!

I have both SD and BLNR. The SD wears better and the glide lock is a nice feature.

I think this is kind of personal and depending on wrist size and form. I can only talk about the watches I have or had. For me, putting them in the order of comfortable to most comfortable would be 116600 - 114060 - 16610. And yes, I seem to wear the good old bracelet better than the new glidelock/micro-adjustment ones. Will also have to do with weight. The SD4K is a heavy dude with a typical balance. Again, on my wrist, not necessarily in general.

Had both. I prefer watches that sit closer to the wrist. So for me, 114060 wins in comfort. SD4k was top heavy and I had to wear it too tight to prevent it from rotating around the wrist.

I think it depends if you like to wear your watch loose/snug.
Personally I find Sub to be comfortable with a loose fit, while SD is more comfortable with a snug fit |

Had both - sold both! I've now gone to a 5 digit sub which is far more comfortable on my 7.25 wrist.
Comfort is my main driver with a watch these days, and this is from a former PAM 44mm luminor owner! |

I have both, (well, a SD4K and a Sub-C w/ date), and I find the SD to fit more comfy on my 6.7" wrist. Although taller, it feels more balanced.

For me the Sub fits better. I prefer the way the wider flatter case wears. It's just more comfortable for me. I have an 8" wrist on the coldest days. That might play into it somewhat.

Nothing negative to say about either one but if forced to choose I give it to the Sub.
It wears similar to your GMT but sits a tad higher off the wrist. With the glidelock it's never an issue getting a perfect fit. |

SDc doesn't do much for me. I much prefer the 114060 for how it hugs the wrist and how it looks (lugs included).

I flipped a subc for the sdc and would have to say the sew dweller wears more comfortably for me. The 114060 is flatter on the wrist, however the wider lugs made it a bit more uncomfortable. My wrist is a little over 6.5" which is the the main contributing factor.

SD4K, while in my opinion best looking modern Rolex, was most uncomfortable for me. It sat too high, and curved case back made it worse, being very top heavy

SDc will be heavier like already mentioned above and would sit taller in wrist. What about an older SD instead?

My wrist is 7 7/8 flat and wide. The sub fits and looks better on me. The sd would be better on smaller round wrists I think. My issue with the sd4k is that I think the head is too small for the glide lock clasp. To my eyes it looks out of proportion.

Had five subs, SDc and GMTc.
Subc was the most comfortable model among the three ceramic models for my 6 3/4" wrist. Yes SDc was better looking with narrower lugs and everything. But too top heavy for me unfortunately. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I've had both. Flipped the ND and kept the SDc. The SeaDweller is my everyday watch. Work, play, travel, etc. I even sleep with it on my wrist.
My wrist size is a 7.25" and rather flat/muscular. I'm also a rock climber so spend a lot of time with specific finger, wrist and forearm strength work outs. I only share that because what works for me might not work for you when you dial in the fit on your wrist even if we share the same wrist circumference. The SDc wraps around my wrist snugly. I also at times like to wear it loose when wearing certain shirts. Even loose the watch feels well balanced and does not rotate around my wrist. I love my Seadweller but also loved the ND. Couldn't justify both and the SDc won out due to a bit rarer in the wild and the other attributes about the watch. Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Having owned both I kept the 116600.
It's lug-lug dimension is actually smaller than the sub which for my 7.5" wrist makes it more comfortable. The sea-dweller is heavier but I don't find it to be any sort of an issue, if you wore it super loose then maybe. I wear mine with the standard (finger between the clasp and wrist rule) |

Thanks for all the replies. This is most helpful. I am probably doing the SD because:
1) I have smaller wrists, in between 6.5 to 6.75" so I think the watch looks better on me. 2) It sounds like as long as the watch is snug, it won't feel like my Planet Ocean 8500 heh....love the watch but the bulk gets to you after awhile. Seems like it's not a challenge to switch between snug and slightly loose with the glidelock bracelet. 3) I workout 6 days a week on various interval training/weight lifting, so I'm a very lean 160 lbs @ 5'11".....no problem having the weight on my wrist whatsoever. It's just that I find the BLNR so comfortable it surprises me compared to all the Omegas I own so got me concerned. The SD itself seems just as thick as my PO but when trying it @ the AD, I thought it felt much better weight balance wise. As for both....I wouldn't say it's impossible as that was my initial plan.....then people started posting pictures of the blue faced YM platinum......that kind of got to me hah. Older SD could be an option I guess, but with Rolex I do really want to buy new/unworn if at all possible. Seems like the pricing is never far off with used versus new on forums and trusted sellers here. |

Have both. Love both. But I wear the SDc more. Just bonding better with it. Seems more special on the wrist. Both wear very comfortably on my 6.5". I don't feel the SDc is top heavy or too tall at all. I think the SDc will become my every day watch and might even sell the 114060.

One important thing to mention is the diver extension. While it's a simply amazing design it's VERY uncomfortable to wear everyday. MOST including myself remove it. Depending on your wrist size this could leave you in need of a 1/2 or full link.
