Would RSC work on my watch?

Hello everyone,

I never really cared much about the "lower mag" problem that my YM has but for some reason since my two year warranty is about to expire in 3 months, now I want to send it in to have it fixed.

My question is, would RSC touch it since I have a red date wheel on? I really don't want to go back to black just to send it in but if I have to then I will.... What do you guys think?!

I would send it to the RSC in SFO and see if they wouldn't do the work for you. I feel like there is a greater chance of letting it slide.

I would think the same thing since it's only a date wheel and not anything major but who knows what they would say.

Thanks, Steve! I sure do hope so as I'm probably going to send it in on Monday!

I would hope so but it is considered a modification even if it's an authentic Rolex part.

At least here in NY I seriously doubt the would work on a modified watch. How difficult would it be to switch back and then send it?

I think they would probably insist on changing it back to standard and that could mean they would insist on a movement service, too. And they would keep your red wheel.

I have seen both magnifications in person, the lower mag is no big deal, looks fine to me, in fact I might even say I like it better, it's doesn't make the date so pronounced, but large enough to see.

My opinion is leave well enough alone, it's been okay for you up till this point, stay with it.

I think the warranty is void if anyone else works on the watch while its under warranty. Meaning even if you send it to the RSC, you'll probably pay for the new crystal and they will return the watch to its original state.

With only two months left on the warranty, I'd send it to an independent with a Rolex parts account and pay them to change the crystal.

For what it's worth, my YM is at the NYC RSC for a crystal replacement. I had to fight with them to change it. They told me it's within "their specs". I asked what exactly is "their specs" and they couldn't answer the question. They went on to say that the new crystal could have the same or better magnification but it wouldn't be any worse. They received it on Jan 9 and I still don't have it back.
My intention is also to change the date wheel but I wanted the mag issue fixed by Rolex first.

That's why I say an independent might be better.

Yup, warranty void if they see the modification. If you want to go warranty route will have to have the OEM date wheel swapped back in and hope that the RSC can't tell that the watch has been opened (can they? I dunno).

The service shop in SF will work on modified watches. Before I swapped the dial on my Daytona, I called them to confirm, although I never kept the watch long enough to need service.

I always thought the official RSC would work on a modified watch but would return it to spec and charge you the cost of the OEM pieces and confiscate your modified pieces. Either that or they simply send the watch back to you and refuse to do the work.

I doubt they will do warranty service given the red wheel. Would suggest you have it swapped if you want them to do the servicing under warranty.

A question for those more knowledgable than myself......As I understand it when Rolex services a watch they provide service papers....if they worked on a modified watch would they still provide service papers? I would think this could get to be a sticky situation ?

Depends on the "work" and depends on what you mean by "full papers". Any watch that has received a movement service will receive a 2 year warranty card and a receipt of service.

If you just get a couple of new spring bars, you'll just get a receipt. Although I can tell you all from experience at RSC NY, they won't work on a watch with even one unauthentic OR unoriginal part.

So really, to answer your question, I don't think they'll work on modified watch at all.

Not that it matters but if the watch was purchased after July 1, 2013 you have a three year warranty.

Warranty voided the millisecond that red date wheel was installed.

you can always ask a non-factory run AD to do it for you in-house. just request a rush for the part and pay the shipping... they may even have replacement crystals in stock.

don't even mention the warranty issue because its not a mechanical problem. if the ad asks for a couple dollars, pay it. they would then contact Rolex for the new crystal and swap it with their own tech dept.

i did this once on a exp2 that started to get bezel fade under the 2yr overhaul warranty period. all done at the ad.

First I agree you should have the crystal swapped. It drove me nuts on my blnr and I flipped it instead of dealing with rsc. I was able to get all my money out of it so no flaming.

Do you have the oem date wheel? I would take it to a local rolex ad and have them swap the date wheel, then send it to rsc.

Thanks everyone for your kind replies! I'm going first thing on Monday to put the oem wheel back on to send it in. I will be contacting RSC in San Fran so they can do it. Hopefully they don't give me a big deal like the local AD's have given me here. I stopped by a few just to see their other YM's and their GMT's and their mag is definitely a bit "better" than mine and when I raised the question, they said they didn't notice a difference -.-

I ordered and had the red date wheel installed through RSC.
To get the date wheel required my model and serial number so my guess is that you should be okay
