Explorer 1 v Blue Dial Yachtmaster

I'm in the market for a new Rolex watch and have narrowed it down to the Explorer 1 (214270) v Blue Dial Yachtmaster (116622). I like the YM a little bit more than the Explorer I, but there are a few things stopping me from buying:

1. Retail Price - $AUD ~$14k for YM vs $AUD ~$8k for the Explorer 1. That would be the number 1 concern for me. Sure, the YM has a date a bezel that can measure an hour and a bit of platinum, but am not sure it's worth $6k more. Is there something that I've missed (ie, an iconic history or any, other intangible factors, such as the YM being discontinued soon?)

2. I hear the YM's platinum bezel may be easily scratched. The Explorer 1 is more durable?

3. Resale value - I've read that YM's resale value isn't the best although I don't know how well the Explorer holds up either. If someone knows, please chime in, and preferably with some numbers behind it.

I'm planning to wear the watch for both work and play and my view is that either of the watches can serve those purposes. I'm just having a hard time paying $6k more for the YM.

Appreciate your comments.

YM is gorgeous but as a daily wear watch the bezel will be a scratch magnet for sure
At 14k the value will drop to approx 10-11k as soon as you leave the AD
Explorer on the other hand will drop from 8k to about 6-6.5k
I think if you like both, the answer is clear

To me the explorer is too small and no date.

If you get the explorer then you will always want the YM. If the YM is out of your price range then go with a Submariner...

Thank you for your replies. Another way of looking at it is that I don't see how the YM is value for money when compared to the Explorer 1. It seems I'm paying AUD $6k more for a platinum bezel (which people say is easily scratched) and the date. Have I missed something? Further, if Versatile1's numbers are correct, the Explorer 1 holds value a little better so that's another plus.

As an example, the BLNR costs ~ $11k here (although waiting lists are very long). That gives me everything bar a platinum bezel when compared to the YM (I appreciate the bezels have different functionalities). Is the platinum bezel worth an extra $3k?
